Common Tries To Help Free Imprisoned Activist Leonard Peltier

Common has voiced his support for imprisoned Native American activist Leonard Peltier, who is currently serving two life sentences for the execution-style deaths of two FBI agents in 1975.

According to AP, the Chicago, Illinois native will perform as part of the “Bring Leonard Peltier Home Concert” at New York’s Beacon Theatre tonight. The lineup includes Harry Belafonte, Pete Seeger, Jackson Browne and more, and the show is meant to bring awareness to Peltier’s plea for clemency as he says he was framed by the FBI.

For Common, he researched Peltier before agreeing to participate in the show. “If I can really help a man be free from something he was accused of and is innocent and wants to be with his family, I can’t get up there and say I can’t do this because I may have a chance to get more record sales, or this film company is not going to decide to use me,” he said.

      1. Silence. Two FBI agents were shot then killed up close. While Peltier may be a changed man, nothing he can ever say or do will change the fact of what happened that day. 29 years in prison is a long time, but that’s life.

    1. I quit working at shoprite and now I make $35h – $80h…how? I’m working online! My work didn’t exactly make me happy so I decided to take a chance on something new after 4 years it was so hard to quit my day job but now I couldn’t be happier.

    2. FBI is never going to let an accused native out of prison even if he is innocent and you prove it but common is bringing attention to a good cause despite that fact, wopila tanka

      1. You ain’t know anything. If it’s not Peltier than it would be someone else. Face the facts, AIM shouldn’t have killed 2 FBI agents. At least Peltier gets to communicate with his family, those 2 slain agents can’t. I’d rather have Peltier there to show that killing is unacceptable. And I’m from the same town where this all popped off.

You should have been used to it already, since this country itself was built based on violence.
