Common Says He Overcame “Low Point” To Record “The Dreamer, The Believer”

Common may seem in good spirits following the release of his ninth album The Dreamer, The Believer, but he had to overcome some emotional obstacles to record it. During an interview with KEPR CBS 19, the Chicago, Illinois rapper said that he wasn’t inspired for the project.

“I hadn’t figured out what I was going to do, what label I was going to work with,” said Com, who split with Universal Music following the release of 2008’s Universal Mind Control. “I wasn’t inspired.”

Com says that he credits No I.D., who produced the entirety of the album, for helping him overcome his emotional low.

“He was willing to be like, `Yo, let’s go! Let’s get it. Let’s go get on this hip-hop,”‘ he said. “So I think that meant a lot to me and from there we just continued to grow.”

      1. Common was in Street Kings too though, which is one more box-office movie than your black-ass hermit Wayne ever coulda starred in

and Common actually dissed Ice Cube… Wayne can’t even have a shot at Jay-Z without claiming it’s “playful banter” and means nothing

Drake can’t even respond to Luda/Common either. aka shut your monkey ass up, talkin about who ain’t sweet

    8. Yeah, Universal Mind Control was ** SUPER ** inspired!!

Hire another WHITE ghost writer for your “autobiography” you ignorant coon.

    9. i like all of Common’s albums except Electric Circus and Universal Mind Control(tho punch drunk love was entertaining). all i hope is that it’s better than Universal, that shit dribbled in techno, just doesn’t fit Common for me. plus it lacked enough consciousness for me…
