Common, John Legend Earn Golden Globe Nomination For “Glory”

The Golden Globe nominations for the 2015 Academy Awards have been released and Common and John Legend‘s ballad “Glory” has received a nod.

“Glory,” which appears on the Selma soundtrack is one of five tunes up for best original song in a motion picture. In addition to receiving the best original song nomination, Selma earned three other noms — including best director.

On the track, Common addresses the recent social unrest in Ferguson, Missouri, while relating the times to the Martin Luther King Jr.-led movement in Selma, Alabama.

Legend provides a moving chorus by chanting, “We’ll cry glory,” throughout the gospel-inspired song.

The 72nd Golden Globes Awards is slated to take place January 11, 2015 in Los Angeles.
