Coi Leray has channeled Lil’Kim in her announcement of her upcoming eponymous sophomore album, and she all but broke the Internet with her visuals.

Taking to Twitter on Friday (May 19), Benzino‘s daughter revealed that Coi will be dropping on June 23 on all streaming platforms, and the teaser cover is reminiscent of the legendary Hardcore poster from the female rap pioneer.

“Introducing my second album “COI” dropping June 23rd,” she wrote on Twitter.

While it’s not unusual for up-and-comers to channel the energy of legends throughout their careers, Coi Leray’s artistic integrity has been called into question for doing so — in part, it seems, because she’s a Hip Hop “nepo baby” as the daughter of the former Source co-founder and Love & Hip-Hop star.

That’s why she recently fired back at critics who dared to question her artistic credibility.

On May 9, the young rapper fired off a series of tweets addressing people who have questioned her credibility, as well as applauding herself for not caring what haters say — whether on or off stage.

“lol I’m that girl. Real life. Offline. In the booth. On the stage. On the red carpet. On the radio. Overseas. And that’s just what it is. Shout out to my bitches who stay true to them selves and dgaf what nobody has to say!” she tweeted.

The situation started after the “Players” rapper posted a cryptic tweet the day before (May 8), about the music industry being “oversaturated.”

One person, however, noted that Leray may be the person she’s actually referring to. “Can’t help but think Coi benefited from said saturation. Valid message, wrong messenger,” the person tweeted.

The tweet caught Coi’s attention, and she noted her “versatility and stage presence” is what separates her from her peers.

“Y’all buggen. My versatility, my stage presence. My stats. My collabs. My Brand Deals. Fashion Girl. I can dance. Sing. Rap. It’s fine if you don’t see it now. I’m in no rush for you to notice,” she wrote.

However, the story does not end there. According to another person, although what she said regarding her abilities is true, she still benefits from the “oversaturation” she claims to hate.

“Which is all true but you got noticed and ‘fame’ from the over saturation. U literally got big off of TikTok sounds. U got talent like shit sis but don’t act like u didn’t use that moment to get ur shit poppin,” the person tweeted.
