Chuck D has announced that he’s launching a new “culture media” app, and it’s aim is to combat the toxicity that has plagued other social media platforms.

The app, which the Public Enemy legend announced while a guest on Chris Cuomo’s new show Cuomo on NewsNation, is called Bring the Noise and will go live on March 15.

“Well, it’s a culture media app, and I think culture media is greater than social media,” Chuck D said. “Social media, you got everybody in a sandbox. Not saying people can’t say or do whatever.

“One thing that culture media does is the music, the craft, the art, and it’s not uninviting to 35 and under if you wanna just give it a name or a figure or number whatever, but it engages a conversation in a room that just keeps it to the art and culture and that’s what it is.

He continued: “I just think social media’s all over the place. Everybody feels like they got a mic and a camera and they’re a super star so I’m just like, ‘Cool, stay there if you want to,’ but you could go to BringTheNoiseApp.com.

“We’re beta testing our last five days. We’ve been doing it for 60 days and we’re launching March 15.”

Chuck D’s app should come as no surprise considering how adamantly he has pushed for Hip Hop to have a board dedicated to sorting out the needs of the culture. In July 2022, Chuck D, KRS-One, Kurtis Blow and Doug E. Fresh teamed up to establish the Hip Hop Alliance, which aimed to do just that.

In January, the alliance issued a statement in response to Bow Wow claiming Hip Hop needs a “board” to discuss cultural happenings.

“Like every other aspect of society’s workforce, the artists and creators of Hip Hop need protection, support and advocacy,” read the statement, per Rock The Bells. “From label disputes to intellectual property retrieval and the need for an overall governing body, the Hip Hop Alliance was established.

“Recent comments this weekend created a unique opportunity to bring forth a conversation that many in Hip Hop & R&B have been addressing for a long time. The need of a governing body of Hip Hop. The goal of HHA is to empower artists to make informed decisions about their career and ensure that their rights are respected and protected.”

According to its website, the Hip Hop Alliance is a “strategic partnership that represents the needs and concerns of the Hip Hop and R&B workforce through advocacy, information, and service.”

Chuck D has also taken aim at social media before, demanding last year that the N-word be banned from Twitter.

“Yo @elonmusk the next thing twitter should do is ban the N-Word the N**ga & ni**er by anyone that uses it here,” Chuck D wrote at the time. “Then we know things are pointing in an equalized direction. Then you can convince Zuck to do the same at IG FB get it outta here suspend em. It’s as bad as that symbol.”

In a second tweet, he continued: “It ain’t like kicking somebody’s tail in a fight. It’s all words and images here .. keyboard sht … so I’m not talking about anywhere else except social media right now because it can be done .. there gonna be a lotta people backbroke over their ‘pet’ getting smashed on here.”
