Charlamagne On Popa Wu-Action Bronson Confrontation: “I Didn’t Find That Gangsta”

Charlamagne Tha God says he does not approve of Popa Wu confronting Action Bronson at Sean Price’s wake in August. The confrontation took place after Bronson seemingly dissed Wu-Tang Clan member Ghostface Killah.

“When you’re 50-something years old, I just feel like you should always get something off your chest if you got it on your chest, but it comes a certain age where that shit is unacceptable behavior,” the radio host says to VladTV. “And at a wake? A wake for Sean Price? There’s a time and place for everything. And you’re a civilized, Popa Wu’s a civilized individual. I’ve been listening to his spoken word on Wu-Tang albums for years. You coulda waited, bro. Or you coulda said, ‘Yo, I want to talk to you later. Let’s meet somewhere.’ Something. At Sean Price’s wake? Naw. Rest in peace, Sean Price. I didn’t find that G. I didn’t find that gangsta. I actually, I thought it was kinda tacky.”

Charlamagne also expresses disappointment in Bronson for not paying due respect to Ghostface Killah. The Breakfast Club host says that he, as well as many other reporters, have asked Bronson about the Wu-Tang rapper’s influence before he said on ESPN that Ghostface is not rapping in his signature style anymore.

“You’ve been asked that question so many times,” he says. “There’s no reason for you to get caught up there now.”

Charlamagne also says that the Hip Hop world waits for any opportunity to attack White rappers, noting the affronts aimed toward Macklemore and Iggy Azalea. He says Bronson’s comments were inviting criticism.

“I’m all for people giving their opinion, but what was the point of that, especially knowing that you’re gonna get flack for it,” Charlamagne says. “At the end of the day, let’s be clear, Action Bronson, you’re still a White rapper. If you know anything about the culture, we love to get White rappers out of here. Especially on social media, they love to run off White rappers at this point in time. So all they’re waiting for is an opportunity. ‘What? Oh, you’re feeling yourself? Oh, that’s that White privilege. Oh that’s that White entitlement.’ And then they on your ass.”

Last week, Ghostface Killah said that he is done feuding with Bronson.

“What was said, it was said,” he said. “I don’t even acknowledge it no more.”

      1. I don’t disagree with your stance against Charlamagne. But there is no such thing as “young people getting shine”. Young people today ain’t built to shine. You come & go. What young person has made history in the arts or music, that’s is championed by the young movement, that has not saluted those before them? Will your punk ass even remember a Chief Keef or Young Thug In the year 2020? The born yesterday crack baby era ain’t no shine. Challenge my theory so I can “ether” you.

    2. Damn, he bleached the hell out of his face. He keeps getting lighter and lighter…He has that powdery white face like Sammy Sosa now.

    3. I have to agree for once with CTG. I love the Wu and all they stand for, but Poppa Wu’s action at the wake was uncalled for.
