Chance The Rapper recently explained why he turned down an offer to sign with Top Dawg Ent.
“They didn’t almost sign me,” Chance The Rapper said during an interview on MTV’s Rap Fix Live. “They wanted to sign me.”
TDE made an offer to Chance, according to him. However, he had to turn it down.
“Yeah,” he said, when asked about turning down the offer from TDE . “Don’t say it like that, though. I turned down being signed.”
In an interview published October 29, Chance spoke about the importance of staying independent.
“I think it’s mad important for the American Dream to exist and work, and for people to believe in a homegrown and grassroots business,” he said during an interview with BET’s “106 & Park.” “I’m on tour now. I’ve only signed mixtapes, never signed to a label. Everything that I do is a part of my own business, and I think that in doing so, as an independent artist, it gives some stake back in the music industry.”
During the more recent MTV interview, Chance said that he is friends with members of the TDE camp.
“All of those guys are my good friends,” he said. “That whole camp is great. They’re close friends.”
Chance also said that he hopes to continue collaborating with members of TDE, specifically speaking about Ab-Soul, who he’s worked with on “Smoke Again.”
“Soul was an amazing collab because it came out of nowhere,” Chance said. “We became close friends and then we [collaborated]. I think he’s been busy…But we’ll get it in when I get to L.A.”
Chance The Rapper Says Working With Lil Wayne Is His Biggest Accomplishment
During the interview, Chance also addressed his respect for Lil Wayne.
“It’s my favorite accomplishment,” Chance said. “I say that with thought. It’s the biggest accomplishment I’ve made to date because Lil Wayne is probably the biggest reason I’m sitting here right now, rapping and doing what I do. I’m a huge Wayne fan forever.”
Chance and Wayne collaborated on “You Song” off “Dedication 5.”

Y’all internet nerds crack me up. Chance was probably being inspired by Wayne back when he was releasing classic mixtapes and spittin that fire. I know it’s trendy to say how wack Wayne is now, but don’t act like he was never worthy of admiration. #VoiceOfReason
he was never worthy of admiration #voiceofhigherreasoning
Ya’ll are dumb. Chance is only 20 years old and Wayne was at his peak from 2006-2009 which was when Chance was 13-16 years old. Obviously, he would look up to him then. Who’s he supposed to say? Biggie died when he was 4, Pac when he was 3. And the Blueprint came out when he was only 8.
you were right til you hash tagged it and became a internet nerd
There was Kanye for him to look up to.

The same thing is gonna happen to Kendrick, niggas are gonna write him off as he reaches even higher especially his dickriding fans. Lil Wayne was good at one time, he made numerous flows that rappers today are getting hype over. He would spit shit off the head, when he went in the booth. Lean and all that other shit fucked him up.
He was very versatile back then, so I know why people would say those things. I use to want to smack 9th Wonder and Flying Lotus when they name dropped him as being the best, but now I see why.
“It’s my favorite accomplishment,” Wayne said. Proof read your articles or hire me. Jesus fucking christ

…I don’t get why up and coming artists and even established ones giving Wayne or Birdman props. They’re both shitty artists and even shittier people.
This nigga looks like a _______
a prison candy
frog
fried piece of clit that came out yo momma’s ass she boonish niVVer.
1. Lil Wayne
2. Kanye West
3. Jay-Z
4. Eminem
Questios:
Worst hip hop album?
Most dissapointing album?
Most boring album?
Most uninspired artist?
all of the answers can go to Lil Wayne, but he just edges out Eminem by a little bit.
Def Wayne on all accounts since we all sort of pretend that the album didn’t matter cause it wasn’t called The Carter, but it was a terrible album that no one cared about, his 3rd in a row. Got outshined by Gunplay, Cory Gunz, Nicki, and even 2 Chainz. Bad, bad album.
Of the other artists, Eminem’s album is probably the best. Kanye’s was too weird, Jay’s was good, but not terribly inspired, and Eminem crafted a very dope album, his best since Eminem Show where he rapped his ass off and killed every track.
I would say my least favorites on the list are Em and probably Lil Wayne. Em released his worst album too date,Jay-Z had a balanced album I enjoyed it a bit was very basic, I loved Yeezus, there were so many band-wagoners dick riding and saying it was not good, the production was crazy.
Nas needs to be on this list because he still will out-rap every one on this list, his knowledge and lyricism is vast. There was a point where Wayne could have been great, he had an ear for production and he created numerous flows that many rappers are famous off of today, but sadly he switched up.
As an accountant for YMCMB, I can say that since Chance is turning down wack ass TDE and saying he’s a huge Wayne fan that we have a spot reserved for him here at the greatest label ever. Birdman already got the contract out ready to sign him, and he will go diamond in the first week.
If he were to ever sign to YMCMB, which he won’t, he would never release an album. 78 other artists on that label can attest to that.
Birdman already got the fucking contract out for him. And everybody else is taking their time crafting their album to perfection to make it a classic. All YMCMB makes are classics.
Cant be the REAL Dentaldamboy, The real Dentaldamboy does not curse…
U GAY
“Birdman already got the contract out ready to sign him, and he will go diamond the first week.”
Glad to hear that. YMCMB and MMG sell more albums and singles than Kenwack and his crew.
thatll change soon
LOL no one from MMG has sold more albums than Kendrick unless you adding up multiple albums and comparing them to GKMC…
he also outsold every from YMCMB’s last albums as of right now even though Drake is about to pass him by

OMG this is the saddest news I’ve ever heard of. Chance fits so well with TDE. I might go so far to say he probably wont make it without them. He coulda been a great addition to an already elite club. With Isaiah Rashad joining them TDE is going to run the game like Rockafella, Death Row, and G-Unit. This is just sad. I wish I never heard this happened.
Thats a reach, no one but Kdot has mainstream appeal really.
I could see Schoolboy Q being as big as Kendrick in the mainstream but he’s not found that hit song yet. Ab-Soul and even Jay Rock could be kinda popular.
I know you are a TDE fanboy and that’s a good thing, but Chance is buzzing more than Soul and Rock. He is on BET and MTV. This is good news, because he is showing us that hip-hop is ushering in a new age. Indie Mc’s are getting their due, more importantly people are starting to notice and fuck with them. We are starting to get that balance so right now things are looking good for him and hip-hop.

He is not supposed to say “I turned down signing with TDE” sounds cocky. say we had talks about it but it didn’t work out.
lupe would have cried on air like a bitch.

Never enjoyed acid rap much but Chance seems like a cool, down to earth guy….Ill probably check out whatever he puts out next and see if I can like his music

u stupid
YOU DONT LIKE WEEZY ,BUT U PROBABLY LOVE MMLP2.. U DUMB CUNT.
You’re the type of White Boy to say fuck Lil Wayne and the mainstream then, you endorse Em’s bullshit MMLP2 album. Now respond.
daaaamnn you mudafuckas hatin SO much . let him work by his own way
HE SUCKS. TDE WOULD HAVE GAVE SOME CREDIBILITY TO HIS CAREER. THAT WAS A TYPICAL INDUSTRY/POLITICAL STATEMENT WITH WAYNE. WAYNE IS TERRIBLE RIGHT NOW. HE HAS BEEN AT LEAST 3 TO 4 YEARS.
How does he suck lyrically he is better than Q, and he is much more in the ranks of Soul, Rock, and Lamar than have the MC’s his age.
*Half
Funny that’s his biggest accomplishment, because it’s one of his worst verses. Big ups to Chance though, he got his head on straight in this music industry.
No verse is worse or better each verse fits each song made
Chance? this dude in the closet or something? that name is suspect
