Chance the Rapper and Questlove revealed earlier this week that they are not happy with HBO Max pulling the plug on the beloved show South Side.

On Wednesday (February 22), both Chance and Quest took to their respective Instagram pages and gave their thoughts on the cancellation of the show that offered a comedic look at life in the Southside neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. Questlove was the first one up as he shared pictures from various episodes of the show and wrote in his caption how sad he was.

HBO canceled South Side earlier this week after three seasons. The comedy series followed Simon (Sultan Salahuddin) and Kareme (Kareme Young), best friends who just graduated from community college but are stuck working at a rent-to-own furniture store.

Several famous Chicagoans popped up throughout the show, including Chance, Vic Mensa, comedian Deon Cole, actor Kel Mitchell and more. MTV Entertainment Studios produced the series with several executive producers including Bashir Salahuddin, Riddle, Michael Blieden, Jax Media’s Tony Hernandez and MTV’s Ari Pearce, Kristyn Deignan and Tara Power.

“While HBO Max will not be moving forward with a fourth season of South Side, we are so proud of the rich world Bashir Salahuddin, Diallo Riddle and Sultan Salahuddin created,” an HBO Max spokesperson said. “We thank them and Michael Blieden, Tony Hernandez, the supremely talented cast and crew and our partners at MTV Entertainment Studios.”

“For three seasons, this beloved series balanced cutting, hyperlocal social commentary about life on the South Side of Chicago with silly, sometimes zany humor,” the statement continues. “The result was a wholly unique, ambitious and fearless comedy that could speak to everyone living the American dream.”
