YouTube’s co-founder, Chad Hurley posted a video of Kanye West’s marriage proposal to Kim Kardashian back in October and has since been under fire by the famous couple.
Now, according to TMZ, Hurley is firing back claiming “NO ONE ever told him he wasn’t allowed to shoot or distribute the footage.” He also says that after the proposal happened, a person approached him with a waiver and explained to him that it was for the purpose of using his image in a television special. Without reading the document, Hurley claims he signed it not knowing it was a confidentiality agreement.
Still, the video sharing site creator claims “He shouldn’t be legally bound by the waiver because he was misled into signing it and he got no compensation in return for signing away his rights,” TMZ reports. Hurley also posted a pic in which he poses with the signed form at the request of Kimye’s team. He is asking the judge to throw out the case and requesting that Kardashian and West pay for his legal fees.
The exact damages Kimye is seeking are still unknown. However, the couple stated in their initial lawsuit against Hurley’s company, Avos Systems Inc. that, “Exclusive rights, such as those sold by plaintiffs to publication of video of the event, are particularly valuable,” states the couple’s initial lawsuit. “If people violate these rights … they are of substantially diminished value.”
Back in late October, Kanye West sued the YouTube co-founder claiming Hurley was looking to capitalize off their engagement after failing to match YouTube’s success with other ventures.
This is just the latest development in one of many confrontations Kanye West has had with the public and media. Back in early November, West pleaded not guilty in an LAX assault case in which he is accused of battery and attempted grand theft after an altercation at Los Angeles airport, which was caught on video. West was shown trying to grab a camera from a photographer who spoke to the rapper/producer as he exited the airport. Kanye West also recently had a verbal altercation with Shade 45’s Sway Calloway during which he told the radio host he, “Doesn’t have all the answers.”
