Cee Lo Recalls Wanting Eminem On Goodie Mob’s “White Power”

Cee Lo recently discussed his wishes to have Eminem appear on Goodie Mob’s “White Power.”

“It had gotten out to the press and I just thought that it made a bold statement,” Cee Lo said to MTV in an interview. “So I thought that Eminem would easily jump at the controversy being that I heard he had been gearing up to do a new record and getting ready to get back out and fight…I was just as a fan, really anticipating what he could do [with] it…I don’t know. For whatever reason, we weren’t able to do it…I would’ve really liked to see it happen, but it did make the record though.”

Cee Lo’s interview clip can be seen below.

In June, HipHopDX broke the story about the lost collaboration

“I could’ve sworn Eminem would’ve done this song with me,” said Cee Lo. “I thought he would eat the controversy up, but it was kind of hard for me to address it as a White rapper, me being Black. But my Black perspective on White power was my relationship with him.”

Goodie Mob’s debut Soul Food was released in 1995. Their second release, Still Standing, was dropped in 1998 and their third album, World Party, came out a year later. Goodie Mob went on a hiatus until 2004’s One Monkey Don’t Stop No Show and 2005’s Livin’ Life As Lumberjacks. Neither of those albums featured Cee Lo but now all members are back together for their next project.

The group’s upcoming album, Age Against the Machine, is scheduled to be released August 27.

    1. Don’t know why Cee-Lo thinks Eminem would’ve wanted to be on that track. Em was wise to stay away from appearing on any song called “White Power” – you know how some people would take that.

      1. he was on a track w/ Sticky Fingaz called what if i was white. That’s just as controversial or more so. he didn’t spit a verse though.

      2. That’s not even close to as controversial.. especially because mainstream America doesn’t know who Sticky Fingaz is.

      1. Yes we did. We actually broke this story in June while covering The Goodie Mob Age Against The Machine listening, which we included in our story above. Since Cee-Lo provided additional context around the lost collaboration, we decided it was important enough to inform our readers. But thank you for raising the question.

    2. Goodie Mobb’s first two albums were both classic hip hop. Hope the new album brings back that same style.

    3. Em got in enough trouble when the Source found his old tapes of him saying “nigga” and dissing black women. This would have set his ass back.

    4. im glad he didnt do it– then he would of looked as retarded as all the black rappers who rap about black power–when rly noone gives a fuck about it except them and a few fake people who think theyre all revolutionary n shit
