Bun B connected with RZA for the first time in the wake of Pimp C‘s passing, and their conversation really helped Bun process the loss of his UGK partner.
Sitting down with Raekwon in a new episode of Hip-Hop Wired’s I Got Questions, Bun revisited the convo that happened shortly after Pimp’s death in December 2007 – which occurred just three short years after the Wu-Tang Clan dealt with the death of Ol’ Dirty Bastard in November 2004.
“When I lost Pimp, a lot of people called and offered their condolences. One of the people that called me was RZA,” Bun began. “Y’all had just lost [Ol’ Dirty Bastard]. He reached out to me and he was like, ‘I just wanted to call you and offer my condolences and just talk with you because we recently went through something like that.’ And we just talked about grief and loss”
He continued: “My first conversation ever with this brother was about that. And it was such a blessing. It was words like that from him that really gave me a strength in the moment to know like okay, maybe not today, but eventually I’m gonna find a way to deal with this and move forward but still honor him.”
More recently, Houston suffered the loss of rapper and producer BeatKing after his death at the age of 39, and Bun B was among BK’s many peers who paid tribute to him on social media.

The Houston star’s death was confirmed by his manager Tasha Felder in an Instagram post in August.
“Today, August 15, 2024 we have lost @clubgodzilla,” she wrote. “Beatking has been the best part of the club for over a decade. He has produced and worked with so many artists that his sound will forever live. He loved his daughters @clubgodparenting, his music and his fans. We will love him forever.”
According to TMZ, he died due to a pulmonary embolism, which is when a blood clot blocks a blood vessel in the lungs.
Tributes to BeatKing (real name Justin Riley) quickly began pouring in from various artists that he worked with over his career, as well as Southern rap legends.
