Bun B has shouted out Busta Rhymes for reimagining one of his classic songs and giving it a second life, years after the original was released.

On Friday (November 24), the Flipmode Squad frontman dropped his 11th studio album, Blockbusta. One of the standout joints is “BIG EVERYTHING” featuring DaBaby and T-Pain, which samples Bun B’s 2005 Trill track, “Get Throwed.”

Taken aback by his fellow rap veteran’s take on the song, the UGK legend wrote on Instagram: “Salute to the general @bustarhymes for bringing back that Trill Nostalgia and doing this record! He’s been talking about it for a minute but the timing couldn’t be better! And he brought in @tpain and @dababy for a trill ass trifecta??!!! What a banger!”

T-Pain himself hopped in the comments and replied: “legend!!”

Busta Rhymes isn’t the first rapper to rework Bun B’s “Get Throwed.” Back in 2012, Lupe Fiasco, Twista and Killa Kyleon all hopped on the instrumental for Rap-A-Lot Records’ 25th anniversary compilation.

The original was an even more star-studded affair thanks to features from Pimp C, JAY-Z, Jeezy (who back then was still going by Young Jeezy) and Z-Ro.

Almost a decade after it dropped, Bun B revealed a previously unknown detail about one of the guest contributors.

During a conversation with Elliott Wilson on the Rap Radar Podcast in 2017, he said Hov’s verse was actually a subliminal diss directed at an unnamed rival, but not many people caught it when the song dropped.

“If you listen to ‘Get Throwed,’ to JAY’s verse — for some people it’s going to be clearer than others — but there was shots fired in bars 8 to 12, and there were more shots from bars 12 to 16,” he said.

When asked whether Hov’s lyrics were aimed at his former foe Nas, Bun quickly retorted: “Nah nah nah. This was before that … this was more internal.”
