Bow Wow has had a complicated relationship with Jermaine Dupri throughout the years — and it’s one he compares to a couple of Star Wars characters.
The Ohio native joined the Baller Alert Show for an in-depth conversation shared on Thursday (April 6), during which he got into his current situation with JD and explained why their relationship is where it is.
“We had a conversation not too long ago. I’ll keep that there,” Bow Wow began. “We spoke our peace not too long ago face to face. And then he did the Breakfast Club interview and I saw that and immediately hit him. We made a little pact that we ain’t even gon’ speak on this.”
He continued: “It’s like Obi-Wan and Anakin. That’s me and him. It’s the OG that know it all, been through it all, got the years, got all the recognition. And then Anakin, who then turns to Darth Vader later, was the young protege of Obi. Always the one ready to get out there and get it crackin’ – then Obi is like, ‘You’re not ready.’ They always butt heads because they’re so much alike.”
“That’s the story of me and JD – same type of person, different outlooks on certain things. We just better apart,” he concluded.

Last year, Bow Wow told fans during a Twitter Q&A that he wished he’d never signed to Jermaine Dupri and instead just stayed with Snoop Dogg. He then named his 2005 song “I”m A Flirt” as the track he was most proud of because “it was w out jd.”
“And it went number one w out jd,” he added. “And i wrote it w out jd. My whole career i had to over prove to folks im not to be played w. It was like kobe winning w out shaq. Even jd told me, ‘if u think u can do it w out me THEN DO IT’ welp i did.”
Bow continued to tweet things such as “I just wished I stayed w snoop” and admitted he and Jermaine Dupri have “no work chemistry.” He added, “I aint work with that boy in years. He do him and I do me.”
A few months later, Bow Wow discredited JD’s claims that 106 & Park was his idea, leading to fellow So So Def artist Da Brat calling him out for “being so rude and disrespectful.”
Ultimately the pair had a conversation offline to hash it out, but Brat’s post remains on her Instagram months later.
Lol. Obi owned the high ground. Now you’re just a body writhing in pain. Great similarity bro. Leave that stuff for the fans. You suck pow wow. What tf have you offered for hip hop since the OG’s put you on????? You’re the Memphis Bleek of the west coast era. But Bleek more purposeful than you. Just stfu like Diddy told you. Why is it so hard?????? We don’t care.
Bow Wow is always try to prove his relevancy. He hates the fact that he owes an amount of his success to JD. Instead, he should be happy and grateful he was making music for a number of years due to this connection. A lot of cats would kill to have that position.
Exactly. Look how big Snoop Dogg has become but he still always mentions Warren G for telling him to pursue rapping & not the streets & to Dr. Dre for catapulting his career.
