Bootsy Collins Recruits Snoop Dogg, Phil Ade For New Album

Ice Cube sampled Parliament’s “Bop Gun (Endangered Species)” for his 1993 remake, and he’ll be returning the favor by appearing on former Parliament member Bootsy Collins’ upcoming album. In addition to Cube, Snoop Dogg, Public Enemy’s Chuck D, Musiq Soulchild and DMV spitter Phil Ade will appear on Bootsy’s upcoming, “The Funk Capitol of the World.”

Between his work with James Brown and Parliament, Collins has been sampled numerous times, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee has also been featured on a few Hip Hop albums, such as Snoop Dogg’s Rhythm & Gangsta.

“In 2008 we went out and did a tribute to James Brown tour with…as many of the JB’s together as I could,” Collins told Billboard magazine. “That really got me thinking about all these great cats who are no longer around and how people are just forgetting about them, and the music is becoming so watered down now. We’re forgetting the ones that really opened the door. Since I’m still here, I really wanted to connect those dots…so young people can see that what they think is so new isn’t so new.”

Snoop, Cube and Chuck D are featured together on the track “Hip Hop @ Funk U.” “The Funk Capitol of the World” will be released April 26 on Mascot Records.
