Black Mafia Family co-Founder Big Meech has been released from prison after nearly 20 years behind bars, and has reportedly been transferred to a halfway house to finish out the remainder of his sentence.
According to a report from TMZ, the Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed that Meech (real name Demetrius Flenory) was transferred on Tuesday (October 15) from FCI Coleman Low in Wildwood to community confinement overseen by the BOP’s Miami Residential Reentry Management Office. The outlet cites sources placing Meech in a halfway house.

In a statement to the outlet, Meech’s attorney Brittany K. Barnett said she’s “overjoyed” he’s free, and that he “used his time in prison to focus on his own personal growth and he has the opportunity now to start a new chapter in his life.”
According to Bureau of Prisons records, Meech’s scheduled release date is January 27, 2026.

The Black Mafia Family (BMF) was a drug trafficking organization founded in Detroit, though its main hubs became Atlanta and Los Angeles. They also had an associated entertainment company. A fictionalized version of the crew’s famously high-living exploits can be seen on the TV show BMF, executive produced by 50 Cent and starring Meech’s son Demetrius “Lil Meech” Flenory Jr. playing his father.
Flenory was arrested in 2005 and ultimately convicted three years later. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison for maintaining a continuing criminal enterprise and money laundering.

“ATL club promoters rubbing their hands like Birdman,” one person said on social media in reaction to the big news. “Every drug dealer and rapper in the world gone be at the club in Atlanta when Meech get released,” someone else joked.

Back in February, Barnett, was able to have 32 months trimmed off Big Meech’s punishment thanks to Amendment 821 of the United States Criminal Code, emphasizing his rehabilitation after he was found guilty of large-scale drug trafficking and money laundering.
This means the BMF co-founder could be fully home by 2025, three years before his latest reduced sentencing of 20 years.
According to court documents obtained by HipHopDX, Barnett filed the motion with the Eastern District of Michigan in early January, demanding a “retroactive application” of sentencing guidelines.
In summary, she argued that since the ex-BMF leader has been nothing short of a model citizen while serving time — getting his GED, doing well in his other prison classes and staying out of trouble on the inside since 2021 etc. — he’s earned credit for his sentence under the U.S.S.G. (United States Sentencing Guidelines) Amendment 782, and, therefore, should be released by 2025.

The founder of the Buried Alive Project, Barnett first received national attention in 2018, when she worked with Kim Kardashian to free Alice Johnson, who was sentenced to life in prison in 1997 for cocaine trafficking even though it was her first offense. She served 21 years in prison before being freed in June 2018.
