The 15-track LP, produced entirely by Madlib, features guest appearances from M.E.D., Jimetta Rose, Bubb Watts, Swheatpee, Lil Stoney, Jack Spade and Co$$.
Blu and Exile similarly released their collaborative album, Give Me My Flowers While I Can Still Smell Them, without warning and on Bandcamp in December 2011.

Blu is a terrible artist and incredibly unprofessional. It’s just one thing after another with this kid. He released an album that got a lot of acclaim with Exile, I enjoyed the album the beats were incredible, I found Blu to be very bland and boring, but he established a fan base with that album. How does he respond to that? By recording cheap projects, that get tossed out one after another, with terrible sonic quality, unmixed vocals, fucked up levels, and zero build up. I don’t think he cares. To me, it’s disrespectful. Not only to his fans, and himself, but the people working with him. Madlib can give a lot of guys beats, and they will treat the project with a lot of care. They aren’t going to record it, and release a rough version for sale with zero build up. I had the misfortune of seeing this kid live, he was struggling with some kind of substance problem. He was very intoxicated, disconnected from the audience, slurring words, forgetting words, letting the vocal track behind him fill in gaps. Zero energy. This guy doesn’t deserve success, he doesn’t work hard and he seems disinterested in the whole thing. There’s too many hard working artists out there really trying for what little they got, appreciative of any support. Never thought the kid was anything special, very bland, not overly skilled, but he has a fanbase, and he continually shits on them. I don’t respect that. Madlib is a genuine talent that can work with just about anyone he chooses, as busy as he is, I don’t think he’d appreciate someone half assing a project he’s affiliated with and putting it up for sale. That reflects poorly on him. No quality control whatsoever, and the kid wonders why his brand is hurt. Get a clue kid.

i admittedly am not a huge fan of blu the artist, but i respect the fact he has built a following for himself. i feel he owes his fans a little more respect, throwing these unmixed albums out for sale is a tacky move in my humble opinion. it is not the first time he’s done this. i objectively listened to this project as a huge fan of madlib. it was frustrating to say the least.
do not compare madvillainy to blu’s unmixed recordings. madvillainy was mastered, the levels are consistent, and it bangs on a nice system. there’s a way to achieve the dusty aesthetic without sacrificing artistic quality.

But since then, I have no idea what this dude is doing! There are some real talented cats coming from the West Coast again, and he is getting passed by. I understand that not everybody is going to fit the same mold and that dude might want to experiment, but Blu has just gone way the fuck out into Neverland. The CRAC Knuckles and J&J albums were just not something I could vibe with. I thought NoYork was going to be a real album, and he comes out with some half-assed work.

The Jesus LP was dope, i loved the Madlib produced title track. That album had so much potential. I think Blu should probably do a colab album with someone more serious over some dope beats.

No, the beats were in fact made by Madlib. Blu ripped the beats from another project that Madlib did and slapped his name on it. Meaning, this project didn’t happen with the blessing of Madlib, he never gave him permission to use the beats, and he had absolutely nothing to do with it being made. This would have been cool if he didn’t try to CHARGE people for it. Now he has pissed off fans and a possible lawsuit. Dude needs some serious help
