Black Thought surprised fans at the 2023 Roots Picnic as he added a verse to Usher‘s 2004 classic “Throwback” during the latter’s headlining performance.

Ursh closed out the annual three-day festival on Sunday night (June 4) – a last-minute replacement for Diddy after he dropped out as the headliner in late May.

As he tore through his classics like “Burn,” “Yeah” and “U Don’t Have to Call” and brought out special guests among the likes of Jazmine Sullivan and Eve, Usher had another trick up his sleeve for attendees as he was joined by Black Thought for a revamped version of the Confessions cut.

Fans have been hoping for a sequel to the Confessions album as it approaches its 20-year anniversary, but Usher had some bad news for them during a recent interview. topping by The Shade Room in May, the Atlanta native revealed that there will not, in fact, be a Confessions 2.

“That’s just a rumor, at this point,” he said about the possibility of a sequel to the groundbreaking album. “But, who knows? When we get there, we’ll see.”

He continued: “We got time. There’s space and opportunity to think of new ideas. But the one that is 20 years old was a brilliant one. For every producer, writer, and creative that had anything to do with it, we celebrate 20 years of an album. I mean, most people don’t even have careers that last that long. So, to have an actual album that has stood the test of time? I appreciate my fans for continuing to love the music.”

Usher has been riding the wave of Confessions‘ success for quite some time, taking his act to Las Vegas for a residency – where he’s had his fair share of celebrity visitors since it began in February 2022.

Back in March, the crooner took a time-out during his performance to give Queen Latifah her flowers — literally. The New Jersey rap legend attended Usher’s concert on March 18, which also happened to be her 53rd birthday.

Latifah received a birthday gift in front of thousands of fans as Usher made his way into the audience and gave her a hug, as seen in a video posted on his Instagram Stories.

The Native Tongues member could be seen holding a bouquet of roses as her 1993 hit “U.N.I.T.Y.” played throughout the venue’s speakers. The audience cheered the embrace, with Latifah thanking the crowd for their warm reception.
