Harlem, New York veteran emcee Black Rob has been named the latest addition to Duck Down Music. The former Bad Boy Records hit-maker had spent close to a decade with Diddy’s iconic label, releasing hits such as the Buckwild-produced “Whoa” before a felony prison stint. Released from incarceration this March, Rob will work with the 15 year-old label to release his third album, Game Tested & Street Approved.
In a statement, Black Rob explained the LP is a “testimony of what I stand for and how I feel. The people have been asking for true Hip Hop music, and that’s what I’m giving them. I stayed away from features. I’ve been away for 4 [years], so I feel the people deserve to hear me. When I came home, I went right to work, and didn’t have time to reach out to cats. On my next project you will get that.” Rob also confirmed that he hopes to reunite with Buckwild, as well as team with Scram Jones and the legendary Pete Rock, who is presently producing the next full-length from Smif-N’-Wessun for Duck Down.
Joining a growing list of veteran New York emcees including Pharoahe Monch, Buckshot and Sean Price, Rob said, “I always respected their movement and also been a fan of their music. If I’m going independent, why not go with a team I respect, and they have always had a true family setting & environment.”
Black Rob’s first Duck Down public date will take place at October 19th’s Duck Down and Blacksmith showcase, held in Downtown Manhattan’s La Poisson Rouge.
Duck Down is quickly becoming the next Rawkus records
Black Robs new album should be dope!
black rob on duck down: weird, but good, duck down’s great but it’s no rawkus…
Smartest thing he could of done. B.R. being spittin fire unlike Shyne. He can get a proper budget inhouse producers and underground marketing push. I’ll buy it. The two below don’t seem to understand . Duckdown is so much more organized then Rawkus ever was. Real hiphop. Just the fact that Duckdown signed Black Rob to me means HE’s rapping like hes in his prime. No has been shit over here. Just seasoned Vets who know how to go in!
Duck Down has got a lot of solid releases and Black Rob’s decent too, looking forward to this.
Duck Down releases their stuff through E1(Koch). Just FYI in case anyone didn’t know.
Rawkus was great, but no Duckdown.
its been a while since i heard some B.R. shitt, hope its good like the previous album
i give Dru and Buck a lot of credit and congratulate them on the Move. You Haters out there should respect what these Men been doing the last 15 years, both wise Bizness Men. Cop that Skyzoo & Illmind CD, and understand what true HipHop is all about! Thank you Duck Down Records!
Good choice Rob.
Good move for Black Rob,I hope his Duck Down debut is right,on the flip side watch Puff go into the Bad Boy vaults and press unused Black Rob tracks at that same time just to spite him.
