Los Angeles based Hip Hop group Black Eyed Peas have teamed up with the Adobe Foundation and the Entertainment Industry Foundation to create a film and music program for underprivileged youth in the Bay Area.
Those who participate in the program will be able to voice their opinions on the happenings in their community through video, music, dance and art.
“As a group, we’ve made a commitment to help give teens the artistic tools and opportunities to help them realize their fullest potential,” will.i.am said in a statement. “Thanks to the incredible generosity of Adobe Youth Voices, we are able to expand our vision and give even more kids a chance to be productive, enterprising adults.”
The partnership between the Black Eyed Peas‘ Peapod Foundation, the Adobe Foundation and the Entertainment Industry Foundation was celebrated at a benefit concert on February 5. The concert featured performances by the Black Eyed Peas and others.
“Creativity and digital literacy are as fundamental to a quality education as every other skill taught in the classroom today,” Shantanu Narayen, president and CEO of Adobe Systems Inc. and president of the Adobe Foundation said in a statement. “We’re proud to be working with such talented and committed artists to nurture self-expression among young people in underserved communities. We hope this is just the beginning.”
The Black Eyed Peas opened their first Peapod Academy last year at the Watts/Willowbrook Boys and Girls Club. Thanks to the opening of the Peapod Academy, the Boys and Girls Club now features a state-of-the-art music and educational center and recording facility.
