Biggie and Scar Lip have come together for an unlikely mashup thanks to DJ Ted Smooth. On Thursday (June 1), the producer dropped off his remix of Scar Lip’s viral “This Is New York” track, featuring some vocals from the late rapper.
While maintaining its original gritty New York vibe, the addition of Biggie’s vocals takes the song to another level.

Having taken over the internet since its release back in August, “This is New York” has helped shine a light on the 22-year-old rapper.
Last month, Snoop Dogg also released his remixed version of the track titled “This Is Cali,” almost seemingly stamping his approval of the young rap star.
This won’t be the last Biggie remix you can expect to hear. A few weeks back, Warner Music unveiled a fun, new lens via Instagram that would give fans the opportunity to remix a 1994 classic from the New York legend.
In collaboration with tech company Minibeats, Warner announced the filter will include a DJ feature that allows fans to rewind and speed up Biggie’s “Respect” off his seminal debut Ready To Die.

“Casey & Finch better known as the founding members of KC & The Sunshine Band, birthed a B-Side record, ‘I Get Lifted,’” Warner said in a statement. “Nearly 20 years later in 1994, Poke and Puff Daddy slowed down the pitch and sampled that iconic guitar and bass line pairing it with one of the greatest voices in Hip Hop, The Notorious B.I.G.’s lyrics on ‘Respect’ birthed a classic coming-of-age tale from Bad Boy to becoming the King of New York.”

This is far from the first time the late Biggie Smalls’ legacy has been honored in an unconventional way. A limited edition Deadpool variant comic featuring The Notorious B.I.G. was released in 2022.
Last month, the New York native and the popular Marvel character collaborated again and teased an upcoming drop that includes a hoodie that looks similar to the cover of Deadpool‘s comic book featuring the New York rapper.
