Big Hit has dropped “Cornerstore Freestyle,” just a short while before his debut album — which has been 30 years in the making — officially hits the streets.
Taking to his Instagram on Friday (December 15), the rapper dropped his freestyle produced — as was the rest of his album — by his son, Hit-Boy.

“Y’all thought I was finished?” he wrote in the caption. “Full Cornerstore freestyle out now!”
Meanwhile, on Monday (December 11), Big Hit revealed that his album, The Truth is in My Eyes, will hit the streets on Saturday (December 16). He will also be hosting a premiere party in Los Angeles, CA, at 8:00 p.m. PT to celebrate.

Fans of the producer know that his father, Big Hit (real name Chauncey Hollis Sr.), had a bit of a rap sheet. Back in 2014, he was arrested in Illinois during a traffic stop, when it was revealed that he had an outstanding warrant in California.
The warrant stemmed from a hit-and-run accident in Los Angeles which left several people seriously injured, according to Patch. Ultimately, Big Hit’s case went to trial and he was sentenced to 12 years and four months in the state prison.

On May 6, Hit-Boy took to Instagram to reveal that his father had been released and came straight to the studio to lay down some tracks with his son. “Big Hit Free. knocked down 9 years and came straight to the stu,” he wrote.
Those studio sessions, as it turned out, would yield The Truth is in My Eyes.

Earlier this month, Snoop Dogg had some words of encouragement for Big Hit to prepare him for the big release.
On Monday (December 4), Hit-Boy shared on social media a clip of Snoop on a phone call with Big Hit. In it, the Doggfather lays down some “rules and regulations” for the producer’s father, who is attempting a rap career after returning home this past spring from serving nine years in state prison for a hit-and-run.
“As a father, your job is to mentor and give him information where one day, your son can teach you,” Snoop began. “You in a position now to be taught. That n-gga can teach you how to stay out, how to get money, how to be the dope-ass rapper that you are.”
Hit-Boy reiterated this theme in his caption, writing: “This is the FIRST TIME ever in music you’ve seen a role reversal of this proportion. I’m helping my dad do something constructive with his time and giving him an outlet to express himself in a creative manner through music.”

The producer went on to thank Snoop for “the words of encouragement,” and said that Big Hit’s upcoming project would be titled The Truth Is In My Eyes. Thus far, Hit-Boy said, the album process has been done entirely independently.
“We decided not to take any of the record deals we been offered since he got out 7 months ago for multiple reasons and the main reason is i’ve seen and been through too much to let my pops get caught up in these same systems i have no belief in,” he clarified. “[W]hen you show love and support to this movement just know it’s all off the muscle. funded by us for yall.”
