Big Boi and Andre 3000 haven’t revealed too many details about another possible Outkast album, other than saying it is a plan after they both finish their solo projects. In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Big Boi confirmed that statement, but also gave a bit more insight into the solo deal he signed earlier this year with Def Jam.
According to Gerrick D. Kennedy of the Times, Big Boi actually signed a three-album deal with Def Jam as a solo artist. After the release of an Outkast album, Big has plans to release the solo project, Daddy Fat Sacks: Soul Funk Crusader.
Both an Outkast album and a Big Boi solo effort would likely hit shelves faster than the critically acclaimed, Sir Lucious Left Foot: Son of Chico Dusty, due to less label politics.
“[It took] 40 months, but I could have been done in a year and a half, two years, Big Boi told the Times. “Outkast is signed to Jive Records. The type of music that we make, they don’t really understand. They were telling me the songs were too artsy and too different.”
In the meantime, Sir Lucious Left Foot continues to enjoy commercial and critical success. The album has been on Billboard‘s Top R&B/Hip Hop chart for 11 consecutive weeks after debuting as the number three album in the country with first-week sales of roughly 62,000 units. In the meantime, Big Boi has announced a tour in support of the album. The full interview, including Big Boi’s take on the Outkast’s early days, and how Kate Bush influenced his sound can be found on the Los Angeles Times Web site.
Critical success? It flopped! Stick to the Outkast albums, cause these off the wall titled solo albums are not what the average consumer will support. He’s got talent, but he’s taking it too far left.
Uhhhh yes critical success, look it up. If you are speaking in terms of sales, I can understand your POV….. but I would counter with…Not bad considering todays climate.
And especially in comparison to the rest of hip hop. Even Drake, with all his hype, took 2 months to go platinum. Nobody’s pushing crazy numbers. B.o.B has had three top ten songs and has barely cleared 400K, so 200K with no hit single is nice.
It has 89 of 100 on metacritic based on 32 reviews. Yes this is a critical succes.
did you even listen to the fucking album?
Any Outkast fan that actually heard Sir Lucious Leftfoot will tell you it sounds like an Outkast album and bangs the whole way through.
yooooo check out Brain Pollution!!! this show is fuckin HILARIOUS!!!

Just because you’ve had it on your iPod doesn’t mean it isn’t unreleased. Shit leaks…
That said, this did drop on vinyl. The b-side to In My Lifetime. So, that tag was certainly our bad.
Those who like this, be sure to check out “Can I Get Open?” by Original Flavor featuring Jay. Hov raps much faster

Big Boi and Outkast went triple platinum with their first three albums and diamond with SBoxx/Love below
He has fallen off egregiously from the last OKast release with these kind of sales!
……Still the best album of the year though!!!
FUCK RECORD SALES!
correction, label promotion has fallen off egregiously from the last outkast release.
Big Boi dropped one of the best hip-hop albums of 2010 it may not sold the most records but he really went in on this cd he’s just lyrically underrated and has always been a great mc just overlooked by andre 3000 he’s just as a great mc cant wait for the outkast album in my opinion they are the greatest rap group ever they just kept the going left of everything that was out there not sounding the same on nothig being creative and original i know big boi’s new album will be fire he almost got 5 mics in source so he is close to a hip hop classic keep it up big boi peace
