Beyoncé received more than a few kind words during a speech held on the floor of congress this week — the multi-hyphenate was hailed as an “icon” by California Rep.Robert Garcia.
Garcia wanted to help commemorate the end of Black History Month and the beginning of Women’s History Month by paying tribute to Queen Bey.

“She’s an icon, she’s a legend, and she is now and forever the moment,” Garica said. “I wanna celebrate none other than who I believe is the undisputed queen of pop and R&B: Beyoncé Knowles Carter.”
Throughout the rest of the speech, Garcia noted her many accomplishments, including her most recent Grammy win, which allowed her to break the record for the most Grammy wins ever.

He continued: “Now, a few weeks ago, this brown-skinned girl out of H-town won her 32nd Grammy, giving her the most Grammy wins of all time. But Beyoncé is so much more than a performer and a singer. She’s a creator and an artist.”
Rep. Garica even quoted some lyrics from Queen Bey’s 2013 track, “Yonce,” before referencing his experience of seeing the “Break My Soul” hitmaker perform with Destiny’s Child, calling it “life-changing.”

As he closed out his speech, Garcia said Beyoncé was “a role model for millions across the country.”
“She’s stood up for voting rights, for feminism, for women and girls, for my community — the LGBTQ+ community,” he concluded. “For my generation and so many others, she simply is the greatest of all time. Her story is history.”
Garcia told Entertainment Weekly, that he wanted to honor the singer because, Bey is an “American hero.”
The praise didn’t end there. Beyoncé was honored again with multiple awards last month, at the 2023 NAACP Image Awards, including winning an award for outstanding female artist and outstanding soul/R&B song for her disco-inspired hit, “Cuff It.”

However, despite all her recent accolades, Spike Lee thinks one is missing — Album Of The Year at the Grammys. While Bey may hav the most Grammy wins ever, the decision still doesn’t sit right with the legendary director.
“I’m not the male president of the Bey Hive, but I love and support Beyoncé,” Lee told The Guardian. “Her album is amazing. I know she’s won multiple Grammys, but four times nominated for Album of the Year, and she’s lost every time? No disrespect to those artists like Adele or Harry Styles who won. It’s not their fault, but that’s some straight-up bullshit.”
