Bangladesh claims it took Kelis an incredibly long time to sign off on the paperwork that now allows him to get paid for assisting on one of her biggest hits.

During a recent interview with BagFuel, the producer reflected on working with the singer and how she could be “difficult.” While discussing how it took her 17 years to greenlight his royalties for producing “Bossy,” Bangladesh recalled that she remained stubborn about receiving a large cut despite her minimal contributions to the track.

“How the record was created, I did the whole beat, so that’s already 50 percent,” the 48-year-old said. “Then Sean Garrett wrote the hook. Jasper and another dude wrote the verses, but she kind of like quarterbacked it. I think the label got Too $hort on it, so the numbers was adding up more than 100 because she was taking a lot of it, and she ain’t do nothing.”

He continued: “What you was asking for doesn’t justify the work you did. It was like you got four people on the writer’s side, and you trying to take 25 percent of the 50, and it’s like this n-gga wrote the hook, this n-gga wrote the verse, you asking for too much, and there wasn’t enough left for Too $hort.”

The Grammy-nominated beatmaker then revealed how he finally got Kelis to share the earnings from the 2006 blockbuster.

“For a long time, I’ve been clearing syncs, just clearing them right, so my administrator was like don’t clear it,” he said. “One sync she was like don’t clear it, and it forced her to sign off.” He said it was then that Kelis agreed to sign off on his earnings.

The payout from fans engaging with recorded material can entirely change an artist’s financial status. Earlier this year, Apple Music reported that Rihanna earned over $350,000 in song royalties following her Super Bowl LVII performance.

In mid-Febriary, RiRi’s worldwide listeners on the streaming service skyrocketed by a whopping 331 percent. The hour following her performance also became her biggest hour in Apple Music history with both concurrent listeners and streams.

The spike was greater than all the artists who performed at last year’s halftime show: Dr. Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, 50 Cent and Mary J. Blige.

A separate report showed that “We Found Love” was the biggest earner for Rihanna, bringing in a whopping $60,101 in royalties for the Bajan billionaire after racking up more than 15 million streams. “Umbrella,” “Diamonds,” “Only Girl (In The World),” “Bitch Better Have My Money” followed close behind, bringing in $57,655, $49,541, $44,842 and $41,893, respectively.

“Where Have You Been,” “Work,” “Rude Boy” and “Pour It Up” also saw huge streaming boosts as well, with Rihanna’s total earnings from all these songs amounting to $386,857.
