B.o.B. Responds To Kendrick Lamar’s “Control (HOF)” Verse With “How 2 Rap”

B.o.B. has released “How 2 Rap,” a song in response to Kendrick Lamar’s verse on Big Sean’s “Control.” The Decatur, Georgia rapper released the song today (August 13), starting the track off with a flow inspired by Kendrick Lamar’s second verse on “Swimming Pools (Drank).”

“Now open your mind up and listen, you niggas,” B.o.B. says on the track. “I am the master, the guru, and after I school you, I’m skinning you niggas. You finished. I’m making chinchillas out [of] niggas. You should be embarrassed I’m thinking ’bout rapping. It’s killing you niggas.”

B.o.B., who also uses a similar flow to the one Drake used on Migos’ “Versace (Remix),” also spoke about his own career on the selection.

“My first mixtape, they all said I sounded like Dre [Andre 3000],” B.o.B. says on the track. “Then they said my album was Pop, didn’t really sound like the mixtape. Now I’m doing what I started, now they telling me I changed. I hear underrated so much, you would swear it was my name. Ain’t no rappers on my list. Come holla at me when you’re done riding each other’s dick.”

The release is billed as B.o.B.’s reply to Kendrick Lamar’s verse on Big Sean’s “Control” by B.o.B.’s Soundcloud page, though B.o.B. was not mentioned by name in the song.

“I’m usually homeboys with the same niggas I’m rhymin’ with,” Kendrick Lamar says on “Control.” “But this is Hip Hop and them niggas should know what time it is. That goes for Jermaine ColeBig K.R.I.T.Wale,Pusha T, Meek MillA$AP RockyDrake, Big Sean, Jay Electron[ica], Tyler[, the Creator]Mac Miller. I got love for you all but I’m tryin’ to murder you niggas. Trying to make sure your core fans never heard of you niggas [and that] they don’t want to hear not one more noun or verb from you niggas. What is competition? I’m trying to raise the bar high.”

    1. B.o.B. is probably THE ONLY rapper who actually should be offended by Kendrick’s verse. He’s arguably the only member of the new school who could be mentioned in the same class.

    2. B.o.B and Kendrick are 2 of my favorites. Love how B.o.B responded by rapping some nice bars and playing a good guitar solo to show how ridiculous it was to leave him off the list (along with cudi and lupe) while including wale and mac miller

      1. I think you made an excellent point my dude, I would have ignored kendrick or gracefully responded like Big Krit did

    3. Weak, but gotta give it to B.O.B. for tryin, dropping a song and not cryin on twitter like these other niggaz

    4. This pop faggot isnt even up for the conversation. Someone tell this wack ass nigga to stick to making songs with taylor swift cus no rap fans actually take this pop garbage rapper seriously. Secondly he will never get on Kendricks level. GOOD KID MAD CITY>>>> This pop faggots carreer and all his trash music.

      1. Anybody who judges an artist strictly for their studio albums is behind times. Listen to Play For Keeps or How U Do That for lyrical murder, Wrong or Shoot Up The Station for lyrical message, Satellite or No Man’s Land for musical brilliance

      2. BOB is a sellout. He goes pop tart to try and sell records. Fuck every rapper just like him. That pop shit than killed Jay Coles career.

      3. Are you an idiot. Even wack rappers like lil wayne have a few good songs does that make them good?? Hell no in order to be a great rapper you have to be consistent produce classic to good albums and mixtapes. BOB is just wack he hasnt produced anything on the level of GOOD KID MAD CITY. And atleast 80 percent of kendricks songs are great where as like 10 percent of BOBs songs are decent

      4. GKMC is better than every B.o.B album but I like B.o.B’s top 20 songs more than Kendrick’s top 20. Love em both though so it’s all gravy.

    5. Y’all tripping about this “he didn’t mention him” or “he’s irrelevant.” Y’all K Dot nut huggers COMPLETELY missed the whole point of Kendrick’s ‘Control’ verse. Yeah, he name dropped, but that whole verse was essentially an open invitation for ANY MC to step up to the mic and throw down. Name dropping like he did was just to start a fire. He’s trying to bring REAL rap back and in REAL rap ‘relevance’ AKA ‘popularity’ does NOT matter. It’s all about who got the sickest bars. It don’t matter if you wearing Jordan’s or Walmart shoes, if you got THE BARS you gon get the respect.

So all you fake ass hip hop fans that really don’t have a clue about what the genre is about need to sit TF down. Fr fr. To all my rap fiends out there, this is only the beginning. Everybody say “THANK YOU K DOT” because that one verse is bring REAL music back.

      1. i cosign this..i hate when ppl say he wasnt mentioned–if anyone even listned 2 kendrick you could easily tell he called out all of rap not just the names

    6. for the last fuckin time, he wasn’t talkin specifically talkin to those cats, in actuality by namin them out he was sayin its not personal. he’s sayin he’s the best hands down. anyone who considers themselves an emcee that isn’t generally on everyones top 10 list should be worried

    7. Lol pretty good from B.o.Bs end. Kinda making fun of Kendricks flow, still good. Like people have said, Kendricks verse is bringing out the best in people.

    8. I’m not going to listen to this song. kendrick is just trying to bring the best out of his homies. the dudes he named are pretty much were all on xxl freshman mags. for the most part he killed all those dudes on their own songs too. for the dudes he didnt mention and made a “reply” song is just corny. don’t call it a reply because he wasn’t talking to you. this is how you know some listeners are that dumb. the message went straight over their heads. don’t be surprised you hear a track featuring all of them going super hard.

    9. And that’s the reason your name wasn’t on the list. You tried to sneak a response in there and for some reason you decided to respond with a fucking guitar solo? Jackass

    10. i was going to post a comment but this guy said something so much better

“And that’s the reason your name wasn’t on the list. You tried to sneak a response in there and for some reason you decided to respond with a fucking guitar solo? Jackass”

      Thanks for the laugh anonymous

    11. B.o.B is underrated by the less educated listeners. Listen to Play For Keeps or How U Do That for lyrical murder, Wrong or Shoot Up The Station for lyrical message, Satellite or No Man’s Land for musical brilliance. Most versatile artist out now.

      1. He versatile because he steals everything he ever does. He’s like the kid in school who can rap like everyone else but can’t come up with a single new idea on his own.

Who is this dude. Pop. Street. Sell out. He’s whatever he needs to be.

The fake it till you make it generation.

    12. everyone laughing like “yo he didnt even put you on the list so why you gonna respond” yo he didnt put Joel Ortiz on the list either yet Joel bodied the track… ya’ll need to listen to K-dots verse again he calls out practically ALL rappers..granted he names a few, but he calling upon everyone.. he is a genius because what he just did was start a civil war within the rap industry… and only the strong shall survive!! we’ll see who steps to the plate and who just back down and rides out the wave..Kendrick is just trying to spark and ignite the game and get niggas back on their toes… everyone is just making that bubblegum radio hit i wannna make $ music. nobody has the griddy and grimmey put my heart in it music anymore.. hopefully shit about to shange!!!

      1. ..im Guessing Joell Gives a F iF hiS Name is oN the List.
..Im gUessing B.O.b. waNtz His Name on The liSt.

Joell kills BOB in anything that has to do with spittin’.

        BOB can sing tho.. woohoo

      1. That shit started in Philly. Back in the early 90’s. Where dudes used to use the same word 16 times and call it a verse.

It’s was the first sign I saw that let me know the public schools had failed us.

      2. AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I hate when rappers rhyme a word with the same word. ” You don’t want me to start clapping, have them big guns to start clapping”…. Go kill yo damn self! Oh, this track is trash. He just murked himself.

    13. LOL isnt this the same nigga that made Airplanes and both of us with taylor swift? BTW his album strange clouds is the most pathetic attempt at pop rap i ever heard wack ass nigga

    14. Well, it’s obvious this nigga can’t jump to reach the bar that Kendrick set…Oh well, so far Ortiz is the only one with what I shall call a response.

    16. ALL THESE RAPPERS ARNT TRYING

U HAVE TO BE REALLY GOOD TO GET FAMOUS

BUT WHY TRY UR HARDEST WHEN DRAKE CAN GET FAMOUS WITH A MIXTAPE

AND DID YOU KNOW THAT A DRAKE IS A MALE DUCK

YALL LISTENING TO THAT DUCK QUACK WHACK RAP

    17. As an accountant for young money, I can confirm that our bitchass label will never be able to go head to head with kendrick. We’re hoes who can’t rap or sell records cause we suck.

      1. He just described Roc Nation and Aftermath. At Young Money, we are talented and sell plenty of records.

    18. it’s funny to me that none of the rappers kendrick called out have responded. It’s all the bitchmade rappers who don’t know no better. All the other rappers don’t want it with kendrick he’ll rip them apart.

    19. Kenderick was too scared to call out the likes of eminem shady would school this new era punk in a beefing session

      1. WHY WOULD HE?? IT WAS DIRECTED TOWARD THE NEW ERA OF HIPHOP.. THATS WHY I DONT GET WHY ORTIZ RESPONDED.. KDOT IS THE MOST LYRIKAL RAPPER IN THIS ERA .. ITS NOT INTENDED FOR OGS..NOW WHY HE DIDNT CALL OUT HOPSKIN.. THATS THE QUESTION.. BUT HE CALLED OUT THOSE HE WANTED TOO.. NOT ITS UP TO THEM TO RESPOND..

    20. The was wack response… Mannn DAMMM!! I not saying B.o.B. anit dope… but this track sure in the hell is not!! HORRIBLE MATERIAL!!!

    21. I think it is funny that people who like BOB do not like this song. I do not like BOB and i actually liked the song. It wasnt a great response to the K Dot song, but was still good. I like the guitar at the end.

    22. GIVE ME A CHANCE
Youtube is all about finding new artist, & though I been rapping for a while im still consider a new artist. I just want my music heard thats all, im not looking for no record deal, getting famous ‘r anything like that.! so please just spare a few sec. to check me out, & if you like what you heard please SUBSCRIBE so ill know you actually listen & support
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzBh55tD_eg

    23. Ever considered that it’s all hype, who’s to say it’s a KDot response at all, EXCEPT Bobby Ray. Damn, niggas nowadays thirsty for some drama.

    24. B.o.B Needs to sit down, he used to be nice, was the potential next A3k, but he sold out, has lost most of his core fan base so he’s not even relevant to Kendrick’s Control verse.

    25. I’m not a Kindrick fan, soooo let me get this right nig’s get mad if you mention them and if you don’t(really).

    26. Someone needs to b*tch slap b.o.b.’s irrelevant ass after this. i mean you weren’t even mentioned, and you’re not from NY so why you responding? you should have layed low seeing as most
“new era” rappers are gonna do that. even though it’s not clear if it’s a response to k.dot, but if it was it was a really weak one

      1. Dude, you are stupid, ken was referring and addressing rappers from all coasts. he challenged every rapper. obviously he didn’t name then all you hypocrite. would of ruined the song.

    27. fuck haters tho cause BOB is an artist hes definatley a backpack rapper just gotta take his music for face value and hes talented end of story

    28. also he probally produced this track too so that counts fer something, hes not a street guy but hes definatley an music artist. that plagiarized fromn kdot and drizzy was pretty damn funny tho also he addresed the fact that basically evryone thats popping now from TDE to meek to drake are all sucking each others dicks hahaha

    29. this is just terrible, no flow what so ever he’s just going down a line. you are no where near kendricks level or any mc for that matter stick to playing piano
