Ari Lennox hasn’t always been as popular as she is today. In fact, she recently recalled a time when she tried out for American Idol, and didn’t make the cut.

The Shea Butter Baby chanteuse took to her Instagram Live on Sunday (February 18). According to her, not advancing in the popular reality competition show triggered her to go on a weed smoking binge — with disastrous results.

“I don’t even smoke weed,” she began. “But…years ago, I had some weed. I was trying out for American Idol, and I didn’t get it. And my cousin was hanging out with his friend, and his friend was like, ‘Try this weed.'”

She continued: “And I guess I took two, maybe three deep puffs. And after I fuckin’ did it, the room started fuckin’ spinning, and the fuckin’ room just kept goin’ like this [waves hands].”

After recalling that she freaked out to the point where the police came and took her to a mental hospital, she concluded, “I woke up, and my body was still pulsating. It was insane.”

Last month, she opened up about how a routine birth control procedure — getting an IUD implanted — went horribly left, causing her “so much pain.”

“I almost collapsed. I did collapse. The little insert joint, collapsation,” she explained. “First of all, I went by myself. I’m talking ’bout the shit women go through, y’all.

“Birth control is hard because you can do the hormonal ones; now you’re dealing with all kinds of hormonal stuff and you’re gaining weight and there’s a lot of emotions — I already have a lot of emotions.”

“The idea of birth control on top of that? Oh my God. It’s literally giving The Purge,” she added, referencing the 2013 dystopian horror film.

Lennox went on to explain that she arrived for the birth control procedure but was unaware of the potential side affects and it turned out to be “the most painful” thing she has ever experienced.

“After that, I thought I could drive myself. I was in so much pain. I drove into a parking lot of the CVS,” she recalled. “I couldn’t move. I couldn’t drive home. I was in so much pain. I had to lay down until I felt better.”
