Another “Whip My Hair” Writer Responds To Soulja Boy’s Claims

Fans were left scratching their heads when Soulja Boy recently claimed that he wrote “Whip My Hair” for Roc Nation signee Willow Smith, seemingly contradicting the songwriting credit given to Ronald “Jukebox” Jackson and Janae Rockwell.

As previously reported, Soulja Boy pointed to the line, “Hop up out the bed / Turn my swag on,” as evidence that he did contribute to the song. But the somewhat disingenuous claim has left one of the actual writers of the song fuming, with several choice words for the 20-year-old rapper.

Jackson, protege of Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, took exception to Soulja Boy, and responded via Twitter.

awww shit, its on blog sites now???!! lmao. Soulja wrote whip my hair??. . and waka flaka wrote “thriller” right? lolabout 14 hours ago via web

My house must be POPPIN! cuz i had NO IDEA soulja was in my house when i did that song! #invisibleswag??about 14 hours ago via web

Soulja Boy has yet to respond to Jackson.

    1. first of all, soulja is a faker.. and stole the style he has from THA JOKER.. look it up.. fuck you soulja boy i lost all respect for you..

      1. Really, this joker guy must really suck. I mean even if he did steal that style from the joker it’s not a good thing he’s trash, and im gonna have to assume this joker fellow is trash as well.

Also it’s funny they’re arguing over this song like it actually has good lyrics or something.

      2. Joker actually knows how to make word play and not some bullshit dance songs. You really can’t compare the two. I don’t think Joker would ever diss Nas.

      1. His 15 has come and gone. He just pops up every now and then with something dumb as shit to keep you reminded why you shouldn’t listen to hip hop these days.

    2. He’s not faking, he’s joking. I hate Soulja Boy, but you could tell he was joking.
Anyways, why are they all acting like Whip My Hair was a good written song? It’s horrible, and Soulja Boy is exactly the kind of songwriter that could’ve written it.

    3. Sounded like soulja girl was jokin when he said that & this nigga catchin feelings. pull down ya skirt nigga

      1. LOL no man.. haha.. he was jus saying that soulja sayin he wrote whip my hair is AS RIDICULOUS as saying waka wrote thriller.. exageration obviously but thats what he was going for

    4. Lol do we get a discussion between somebody we dont know and somebody we dont wanna know (soulja)? Who cares about this shit lol.

    5. SOLDIER TRADE MARKED THAT PART OF THE SONG, AND IF THEY DIDN’T GET THE RIGHT PERMISSION AND PURCHASE THE RIGHTS TO USE IT, THEN SOLDIER IS UP FOR A PAY DAY! STAY TUNED SOLDIER MAY NOT BE A DOPE ARTIST, BUT HE A SMART ONE!

      1. Go read your legal books about trademarking Soulja Boy can’t trademark “Hop out the bed/turn my swag on!” Its a verse that can easily be used under the guidelines of Plagiarism and Copyright Infringment. They didn’t take that idea a run with it they used I once and moved on. Soulja Boy can actually lose a ton of money for coming out and taking credit for even writing a song that he had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH! Soulja Boy won’t see a dime but he might be have give up a few thousand.

      2. Show me his trademark, or where you seen that he trademarked those words. Exactly, so you’re as stupid as Soulja Boy just making shit up for the sake of makin’ shit up. Nothing is unique enough about that statement that would warrant a grant. The only unique word in that statement is Swag, or Swagger, and Soulja Boy definitely didn’t invent the word swagger.

      1. yo im just going to repeat it for the people who didn’t hear me the first time i said it…THIS LIL NIG IS FALSE CLAIMING YALL!

    6. Soulja with his $15,000 sales in unit did something desperate and stupid, because why you gotta lie. I mean everybody uses everybody’s hottest lines in their song. You can compare that desperate move to what 50 Cents his Role-Model did when he tried to compete with Kanye’s Graduation Album:(Claiming that if he did not out sale Kanye then he would never rap again).I know you maybe wondering how does that compare to this: Well, Desperate folks do desperate things and end up looking stupid in the end.

      1. haha word my friend.
i always wondered why rap fans didn’t get at 50 for not keeping up to his end of the bet.

if you wont keep your word, don’t promise it chump

    7. fyi, Jay-Z wrote Cassidy’s “I’m a hustla”
Aerosmith wrote Sing for the Moment by Eminem
      etc, etc, etc, etc.

      This is so stupid.

Just because you sample someone, doesn’t mean they wrote your song.

    8. Soulja Boy is kinda right though. If songwriters want complete and total credit for a song they write then dont steal lines from other peoples songs.

    9. Is this dude “jukebox” comparing hiself to Quincy jones with his thriller comment.Get the f*** outta here.

    10. He is not comparing whip my hair to thriller you idiots. He’s saying that soulja boy writing whip my hair is as ridiculous as wakka writing thriller. Jesus christ what the hell is wrong with you people learn how to read you fucking incompetents.
