Rapper Andre 3000 of the duo Outkast is set to star as legendary singer and musician Sammy Davis Jr. The movie will be produced by music video director Earle Sebastian and Damon Dash.
According to The New York TImes, the movie, titled Sammy and Kim, will chronicle the singer’s controversial relationship with Kim Novak (a white actress) in the 1950s. The relationship was such a scandal that the president of Columbia Pictures (with whom Novak had a contract), Harry Cohn, ordered the relationship to end.
Sam Kashner, a writer for Vanity Fair who followed the controvesy, is working with his wife Nancy Schoenberger on the screenplay.
In addition to this film, four others about Sammy Davis, Jr. are in the works. One, directed by Denzel Washington, will be titled In Black and White: The Life of Sammy Davis Junior.
