Speaking with Cardo on the NFR Podcast, The Alchemist said: “Jay always been on my list. I been saying it for a hundred years. It’s JAY-Z. I would love to. We linked but I keep the faith.

“At this point, I hope it would be a mutual thing, like I would want to work with somebody that would wanna work with me. There’s a couple that’s brewing that’s like bucket list shit for me that I hope happens. I still have hopes like that.”

Despite not outright producing a JAY-Z song, The Alchemist was behind “The Neverending Story” from Jay Electronica’s A Written Testimony album in 2020, which he featured on.

During an episode of A Waste of Time with ItsTheReal in 2015, the producer recalled running into the Roc-A-Fella crew at a club in downtown New York in the early 2000s, where Kareem Biggs Burke introduced him to Jay.

The Alchemist revealed JAY-Z surprisingly told him to “stop wasting” his beats.

“He leaned in my ear and was like, ‘Yo, when you gonna stop wasting them beats?’” he recalled. “And it was ill because it was very confident and he wasn’t trying to be funny, he just deadass. Like, that was the first thing he said to me. I looked at him and he was like serious, it threw me for a loop.
