Akon recently announced at the UK’s BBC Radio Station 1 Extra that he will give it a shot in the genre of country music.
“I’m bout to break into a genre that no black artist, producer or writer ever broke into, ever,” claimed Akon. Although this isn’t entirely true (black country artist Cowboy Troy, for example), Akon doesn’t seem to mind. “And the funniest part about it is, I’m goin in with an alias and I already got my first hit record,” he added.
Akon believes that he plans to do something new for the genre, as he explained that
“I’m tryin to break in, I’m not just tryin to go in.”
As for which hit record Akon was responsible, the singer/songwriter remained silent, refusing to give up any details.
“If I tell you, then they gon’ shut it down,” he said. “I just gotta go on until I accept that Grammy one day.”
