Earlier this year, producer/singer Akon was exposed by TheSmokingGun.com for allegedly lying about his jail sentences [click to read] and over-exaggerating his experiences with the law.
This week, Akon appeared on late night show Chelsea Lately [click to view] to clear up some things and discuss with host Chelsea Handler how he may have made his sentences appear longer than they actually were.
“Actually, that came from The Smoking Gun article,” Akon clarified. “They could have just called and asked me. Everybody knows if you ask I’ma tell you…I had periods of time where I been locked up. Two months here, three months here, seven months here. I put it all together and made one long sentence.”
Akon also discussed how his experience in jail has given him a more hopeful outlook on things.
“That was actually an experience that changed my life,” Akon explained to Handler. “It kind of had me think more positively and gave me time to get my life together and everything. I was truly trying to be a model to those who was in that same situation.”
On a more lighter note, Akon and Handler discussed his relationship with his neighbor who happens to be Ryan Seacrest‘s mom and even the proper way to smack a behind which he demonstrated on Handler.
Freedom [click to read], Akon‘s third album, was released last Tuesday (December 2).
