Ab-Soul is tired of people “pretending” to overlook him and vows to get his recent album Soul Burger the recognition it deserves.
Taking to X in a series of posts on Monday (December 16), Soulo bemoaned the lack of attention his November effort received.
“THIS MAY BE DISTASTEFUL FOR ME TO SAY ON MY OWN, GIVEN THE INSATIABLE STATE OF SOCIAL MEDIA. BUT, FUCC IT,” he began. “SOUL BURGER IS A PHENOMENAL BODY OF WORK. I PUT IT ALL ON THE TABLE. STOP PRETENDING TO OVERLOOK ME. ITS UNBECOMING OF THE CULTURE.”
He continued: “I WILL BE HEARD. MARK MY WORD. LONG LIVE @DOEBURGER.”

Clocking in at 15 songs, Soul Burger boasts appearances from Lupe Fiasco, Vince Staples, Doechii, JID, Ty Dolla $ign, Blxst, JasonMartin (f.k.a. Problem) and TDE president (and occasional rapper) Terrence “Punch” Henderson, among others.
The album also features a posthumous cameo from Ab-Soul’s close friend Armon “Doe Burger” Stringer, whose 2021 death serves as a key inspiration.
In an October interview with veteran L.A. radio host DJ Hed, the Carson, California native explained the concept behind Soul Burger and how it differs from his previous efforts.
“The idea came to fruition after [Doe Burger]’s transition and it’s just something that was very important for me to do ‘cause I don’t even know how I’m really still doing this without him,” he said. “That’s how tight-knit we were.
“He wasn’t no hype man or hangaround; he was really my big homie. He was really the star of it. He put the glow on it. I just been tryna channel him. I got my hair braided — that was against my religion — I got jewelry on.”
Soul continued: “I just been trying to channel him and my best way of doing that is through the music. Hence the title — it’s the fusion of me and him. We was literally Huey and Riley from The Boondocks.
“To where this album is not me – it’s Soul Burger. That’s not me. It’s like a new artist. It’s not a Ab-Soul project, it’s a Soul Burger project, so I recommend everybody listen to it in terms of that.”
Soul Burger is Ab-Soul’s sixth studio album and the follow-up to the critically acclaimed Herbert, which arrived in December 2022.
What a sad time we live in when talented artists publicly bitch about their mediocre projects being overlooked. Tough shit. These Days was amazing. Do better.
I understand him feeling that way because albums that aren’t better than his are getting more spotlight. I listened to the album and I didn’t really like it too much but that doesn’t mean it’s not quality, it just means it’s not for me. I never really liked his beat selection on his albums tho, I think his style isn’t for me but he’s a way above average mc that’s for sure. I’ll give it another listen and maybe it’ll grow on me.
It’s still nonsense to listen to
Here’s the issue with Ab-soul. Sonicly speaking, it isn’t so good. You can have lyricist, but good sound is what made Doggystyle great. Not lyrics. Control System was amazing sonicly and lyrically. Since then, he can’t come close. He can claim whatever he wants, but if he made catchy music, people would like it. My brother and I have listened to each album since Control System, hoping for solid music. He’s failed time after time, yet the music before Control System was amazing as well. Don’t get mad at us because you don’t understand that humans beings like things that SOUND GOOD
I’m gonna have to agree.
Skimmed through it after reading his complaints. Soundwise album sounds terrible. Whoever mixed and mastered it did Ab a disservice.
Ab soul I thought u said you were the “BOAT ” or were you jealous of KDot’s GNX🔥

Ab Soul desperately telling everyone he’s the best rapper while no one is hearing it.
Some lyrical Miracle guys think they’re the best thing since sliced bread but I thought in your lyrics you always talk about being humble so why do you think your trash album is phenomenal question mark
Pretending?
What’s the opposite of phenomenal? I think its closer to that
just be grateful you’re doing this for a living and you’re not working at Soul Burger you feel me
Ironic the blind MC’s outcry is falling on deaf ears. All jokes aside, he truly is one of the best to do it.
