A Tribe Called Quest Film To Debut In Theaters July 8

The controversial new documentary about legendary Hip Hop group A Tribe Called Quest entitled Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest is set to premier in front of audiences this summer. The film’s director, actor Michael Rapaport, has chosen to roll the film out in a road-show format, according to Billboard.com. This means the movie will hit different cities across the country throughout the summer.

Rapaport tells Billboard, “I’ll be all over the place wherever they want to send me… There was no time to wait. As an actor I have been a part of so many movies that seem like they are about to fall apart. The indie filmmakers who inspire me are the ones who go and do it, no matter what that means. Fortunately since then I have received (some financing).”

The controversy surrounding the film has to do with Tribe member Q-Tip’s vocal dissatisfaction with the doc. Rapaport addressed the rapper’s concerns with Billboard, stating, “He was the leader of Tribe. But I’m making the movie and I have to make the final decisions. He’s accustomed to making all of the decisions. I have thought about it a lot and if somebody made a movie as interpersonal as this about me, I don’t know that I’d be pleased with someone else making the decisions. To me, it’s a love letter to the band.”

      1. no because The Love Movement was so mediocre they can’t go out on that note…but like Tyler Perry marrying a woman, its not gonna happen…
