50 Cent Explains Late Grandmother Beulah Jackson’s Career Altering Advice

50 Cent says the first song that he wrote for his sophomore album, The Massacrewas “God Gave Me Style,” a track that includes lyrics about the rapper’s unwavering faith in God. 50 says that song was very important for him.

“If you asked me to make one wish, it would be for that record to be a success,” he says in an interview with REVOLT. “And you know what happens? When I make the song, I go to my grandmother and I play the record for her.”

While 50’s grandmother Beulah Jackson didn’t listen to many of 50’s albums, she provided advice for the star after hearing “God Gave Me Style.”

“When she hears the content to ‘God Gave Me Style,’ she says, ‘Oh you made one for me’,” 50 says. 50 said he did and that he planned on making this album “a little different” from his past material. Her advice? “She’s like, ‘Okay, just don’t forget why they liked you in the first place’.”

From there, 50 reshaped his plans and developed other ideas for the album, which features songs like “Piggy Bank,” “Ski Mask Way” and “Gunz Come Out.”
