50 Cent Claims Eminem Shelved “Relapse 2” Due To Critics

Eminem once released a single called “Just Don’t Give A Fuck,” yet that motto apparently doesn’t apply to critics. In a new interview with Big Boy’s Neighborhood, 50 Cent said criticism of Slim Shady’s 2009 album Relapse prompted Eminem to shelve a recorded sequel.

“Those critics … being criticized about the music actually affects him because it’ll hit him,” 50 said. “He’s been focused completely on that [music] the entire time. You know what I’m saying? He didn’t take a day off.

“So you look at it and go, creatively what he’s deciding to put out … Like, we had a whole other album when he did Relapse. He didn’t like the response, so he didn’t even put out the whole Relapse 2 that we did already. So it’s like if he doesn’t like the response, he can change it.”

Relapse, much like Eminem’s latest album Revival, received mixed reviews. Slim Shady hasn’t been shy about firing back at critics, but 50 felt a need to come to his defense. The G-Unit leader believes newer artists have a lack of respect for Eminem.

“I’ve never heard any new R&B singer come out and say Prince wasn’t hot,” he noted. “That now, new guys should pay homage to Em … because he’s a big part of why we grew as fast as we grew.”

    1. Many men, wish death upon me. 50 debut album is a classic. IMO he never got close to that one. Maybe the first G-Unit album

      1. The Massacre was a great album in itself but yeah he set the bar with GRODT and could never get there again. G unit album was fire too

    2. That album was Em’s lowest selling album and guess who produced the album. Dr. Dre. Im a Dre fan since N.W.A but he been fell off. I didnt feel chronic 2001 or anything after that. Thats why Dre didnt produce one song on the album. He got Beat Block like writer block. You just heard Kenderick looking for a new publishing deal. They introduce him always as a TDE artist. Compton native who keep Dre relevant in the game. It takes him so long to put out a album interest been lost. If it wasnt for Eazy and Jimmey he be hit. Fiddy left and kept on stompin. But fukk all that. Interscope need to put out a Em and fifty compilation album before I do it myself lol!

      1. This is crazy talk. I agree that Dre must have some sort of issue finishing beats now but Relapse is one of the best collection of beats ever. Chronic 2001 is a classic and everything Dre has touched since then has been a masterpiece. If Relapse 2 ever saw the light of day I pray it is all Dre beats because nothing coming out today comes close.

    3. If Em remade Relapse without the accents you’d all fucking love it, I’d rather Relapse 2 than Revival

      1. Been thinking the same thing. I kinda wish he remade Relapse. Same beats, same lyrics, just rap it different. Perhaps even use guest rappers to play the different parts instead of switching accents every other bar. For example on Insane. If the dads voice was Bizarre and the moms voice was some female rapper. I think that could be dope.

    4. Obviously l am not trying to win the approval of others but of God if pleasing people is my goal then I am not being Christ servant

      1. Obviously I am not trying to win the approval of others if pleasing people is my goal l am not being Christ servant the real truth

    5. Ill take relapse, relapse 2 or whatever tf we need to get some DRE production. Like can someone PLEASE get this man to make one beat? Anywhere? Fuckin Eminem, K dot, supposedly Jon Connor?? The good doc got us all hooked on that crack he produced and then pulled the plug and left us fiendin. All cause Jimmy said Detox or nothing (so we missed out on Stat Quo, Bishop Lamont and Slim the Mobster albums that were supposed to be classics) and then he just scrapped years of work and gave us Compton to appease us all. Compton is a great album but it just aint have the feel of Chronic or 2001.. then hhdx puts out an article last week saying “Dr Dre might still release detox” just to keep us fucking waiting. So- we are on pace to hear the mythical detox album by, what, 2031? Because I hear it takes him at least 30 years to mix his songs to get that sound only dre can deliver. Im salty af but the fact is I check in for Detox updates still to this day. And Id pay $1000 for it. So Dre- release Detox with a pair of $500 beats headphones only and that way Jimmy Iovine will fucking sign off on it. Thank you

        1. Relapse was the last real album that Dr. Dre actually fully produced, as opposed to engineering and dabbling here and there like his Compton album. Check the credits, there was one record, Beautiful, that Em produced himself. I honestly just want a real collaborative EP from Kendrick and Dr. Dre on the boards.

      1. Cuz he ain’t produce shit. Promise a no name fuck he will be big after he supply some heat then poof!! Dre’s god and you ain’t shit. Step off fuck boy I’m the shit.

    6. Relapse was fuckin dope. Second verse on Stay Wide Awake is one of the best he’s ever recorded. I think people just weren’t sure if Em’s voice and delivery would ever be what it used to be cause he did so many accents. But looking back, it was a great album. Honestly, a lot of Em albums are underappreciated when they first come out, cause his rhyme schemes are so complex, and it takes awhile to fully digest the content. Slim Shady LP got like 3 stars on all these outlets that then went back and changed that shit to a 5.

      1. That verse you’re talking about is insane! And yes, every damn project eminem has released since Infinite has been criticized for different reasons. Still, he got a couple classics (SSLP, MMLP, Eminem Show), A couple are above par (Relapse, Recovery, Infinite) and then he got some average ones (Encore, MMLP2, Revival).

    7. Lets be honest Revival was bad because Em went on a hippy liberal tantrum, the albums content sucked which made even the songs that were not political still kinda sound like watered down shit, you could almost say he Ja Ruled him self ,he lost all the credibility he had built up with a lot of his listeners. does that make most of what he did before revival suddenly bad? to me no but i will find it hard to listen to any new music of his ever again unless he somehow pulls his head out of his ass and realizes how far off hes gone.
anyway thats just my thoughts on it im sure some will agree some wont but oh well thats life

    8. 50’s loyalty to Eminem is more impressive than Eminem’s music lately. Stop trying to cater to so many people make the music that made you superstar are you are today. Simples

    9. He should’ve shelved every album after The Eminem Show to be fair, washed up white boy could’ve retired early and spent his days listening to Ed Sheeran’s Greatest Hits without having to worry about the mean old critics

    10. Not growing out of the angry white boy shell is the reason Em will be criticized to death! If he had stuck to the ‘Lose Yourself’ lane since the Eminem Show, he would have earned our respect.

    11. Em may have been huge for 50’’s career and other white rappers getting signed but as far as rap music goes he is wayyy overrated and we know why.

    12. Relapse kept growing on me. The more i listened the more i liked it. Shit I love that album. It’ll be more appreciated down the road. Honestly we made you was the only shitty song on the album imo. I’d love to hear relapse 2.

    13. I’m still on record with this, front to back, Relapse is his most complete, cohesive work, largely due to Dre producing basically the whole shit. It knocks the way no other Em album does, and his flows on there are sick. Stay Wide Awake…I’ll put that up there with anything he’s ever done. Insane, 3 am, Hello, My mom, Beautiful, Underground, these are some of the best songs he’s done in his life fam…

    14. LITTLE DID EMINEM RELAPSE + REFILL IS PROBABLY THE BEST WORK OF ART HE’S RELEASED EVER IN TIME….

      DONT BELIEVE ME?

GO CHECK THE BARS… THAT ALBUM IS LYRICALLY THE MOST IMPRESSIVE ALBUM HE’S EVER DONE.

SORRY EM BUT SHELVING RELAPSE 2 WAS A BAD MISTAKE….. WHY?
      RECOVERY – ASS
MMLP2 – LESS ASS THAN RECOVERY
      REVIVAL – TERRIBLE.

RELAPSE + REFILL GAVE YOU 20 + SONGS OF PURE FIRE…. GO RE-LIVE THAT MAGIC!

    15. m aint no prince co signed by dre & needed for the corp agenda at the time beefing with pop stars lmao would never heard of him if not for his skin tone who cares it is what it is, stole East Side Hoes And Money ESHAMs whole “shock” and ran with wit it… ill take boomin words & ki ll the fe tus over any em joint not even top 75 if you break it down but his stans can black ball any rapper that would speak truth cateer sui cide not the plan

    16. In my opinion, Revival wasn’t a hip hop album even though em was rapping on it. He was rapping over pop production and pop hooks. Relapse was a hip hop album in my mind. I hope the blow back from Revival encourages him to put out that relapse 2 but I don’t see that happening. I would love to hear him put out a real hip hop album.

    17. I read an article where Em initially said the direction that Relapse 2 was going led him to make Recovery instead. Why is 50 saying something different 9 years later?

    18. Am I the only one to think that a 50 Cent Rick Ross track would be ??? f*ck the beef my brothers let’s make this magic and this money!

    19. Come on lets be honest almost all of his beats that he chooses to rap over are so damn wack. Dre hasn’t been hot since he produced tracks for Above the Law back in 1990. Em got bars don’t get it twisted but he needs to chill with the whiny voice stuff and maybe slow down his flow cuz yeah he has bars like I said but his new material sounds to rushed which sounds off key. Could it be the pills that has messed with his brain, who knows?! Maybe get away from Dre and link up with a producer like Ayatollah, Endemic or Preem….just saying.

      1. “Dre hasn’t been hot since he produced tracks for Above the Law back in 1990”

Naw. I’d say since he co-produced “California Love” back in 1996.

        1. id say after chronic 2001 since it was a huge succes he still produced dope tracks here & there but he didnt do entire album production.
I dont think relapse wasnt bad though , compared what he released afterwards

      2. All those produers are just as washed as dr dre, with less respect. I think it’s time for him to hang it up.

    20. Man as the days go by I lose more and more respect for Em…Here’s “Mr. I Don’t Give A Fuck” scrapping albums cuz critics talked shit. I wish he retired after Eminem Show, his legend would’ve forever remained in tact. He shitting all over his legacy in his old age

    21. Em hasn’t made a good album since the Eminem show. Hasn’t won a reputable battle (beat Benzino, was scared of Royce, lost to Mariah Carey). Now makes pop albums with a genre he has criticized for years. Why is he an all time great?

        1. Nobody listens too ora respects canibus. Em battled a dude who had no career. Mariah had a hit, Em jad nothing worth listening to. When real ones call him out, he’s quiet. Actually nelly called him out and he ignored it lol. He picks his battles (pop stars).

      1. Yep Eminems new stuff is absolute garbage. He needs to lay off the plastic surgery too, starting to look like Ellen Degeneres.

    22. Relapse is the best produced Eminem album, period. And Dre hasn’t produced anything close to his work on that album since. The album had a few misses, but the beats and Em’s flows and rhyme schemes were on another level. The mixing and mastering of it too. That album just sounds so crisp.

    23. He should’ve scrapped this last one too lol. Why doesn’t Eminem reach out to people like NO ID, Premo and Just Blaze. Make a REAL hip hop album with some boom bap. That’ll be incredible.

    24. Eminems new shit is absolute garbage nothing good since the eminem show. He needs to lay off the plastic sugery too he starting to look like Ellen Degeneres. Back in the day he would diss shit pop artists like pink (i hate that ugly bitch) now he makes songs with them.
