FLAVS Festival 2022 is back!

Indonesia’s biggest hip hop, soul, and R&B festival returns this September 10-11 at the Istorya Senayan Jakarta. In a press statement, the festival organizers share that they aim “to be a place for Indonesian talents and potential musicians of the future to display their flair.”

“This festival is presented to show that the acculturation of hip hop culture that is widespread throughout the country is in fact real; here we’ll be able to see that the creativity of Indonesian cultural diversity influenced by and wrapped up in hip hop is impressive,” mentions Festival Director M. Riza, during the festival’s press conference at Ecology Kemang, South Jakarta, held last September 1.

FLAVS Festival 2022 boasts of a stellar and culturally diverse lineup, bringing together homegrown rappers like Tuan Tigabelas, Mukarakat, Basboi, BAP., and Ramengvrl just to name a few. The festival also held a series of rap battles, Bboy/Bgirl battles, graffiti battles, and more in the lead up to this weekend.

Not only can audiences expect performances from some of the country’s best talent, but also a slew of events and installations where fans can immerse themselves in Indonesian hip hop culture.

Some of the events audiences can participate in include a 2-on-2 freestyle basketball tournament, a skate park, graffiti events, a live painting session, and a “Cinematic Room” that will hold screenings of Indonesian hip hop films such as It’s Wijilan, Start From Scratch, Alas Tempuh, Black Book, Ink & Paint, Hibob, Gemah Ripah Loh Symphony, and HipHopDX Asia’s Cipinang Prison: A Hip Hop Story.

“In addition to a diversified line-up, FLAVS wants visitors to have the experience of interacting with the culture and subculture of Indonesian hip hop through the festival program we present. What we hope is that after returning from FLAVS, there will be a transfer of knowledge that will have an impact on Indonesia’s music ecosystem, fostering confidence for all hip hop, soul and R&B players to be able to forge a career in this path,” shares Yacko, Program Director for FLAVS Festival 2022 in a press statement.
