Mumbai-based singer Ambika Nayak adopts a hip hop-driven music direction under the moniker Kayan with the premiere of “No Shade,” a collaboration with Singaporean rapper Yung Raja.
Known better for her soul, electronic, pop, and R&B-leaning work, Kayan says exploring an “edgier” sound in “No Shade” is something she looks forward to. “To me, I think ‘No Shade’ is a little different from most of the music I’ve been releasing. Yung Raja is someone I’ve wanted to collaborate with ever since I heard of him. This song is going to be really fresh for most of my listeners and I look forward to exploring fresher and newer sounds like this every time.”
Of the track, Yung Raja shares in a statement, “It’s so electric. I fell in love with the track the first time I heard it and had a blast shooting the music video all around Mumbai.”

The accompanying music video—directed by Bangalore-based filmmaker Lendrick Kumar—shows the pair in different locations across Mumbai. It premiered today, August 12.
