Summer Sonic Festival is back! The annual Japanese music festival announced its much-awaited return in August this year.

Summer Sonic 2022 is set to be held in Tokyo and Osaka this August 20 and 21, respectively. The 1975 and Post Malone will headline both Tokyo and Osaka sets. Carly Rae Jepsen and Megan Thee Stallion are also set to perform.

Among the Asian acts, Korean hip hop superstar CL is also set to perform at the festival. Japanese singer-producer Rina Sawayama and Filipino-British singer Beabadoobee are among the lineup as well.

While the full lineup is set to be announced in the coming weeks, other big names in the lineup include Japanese rock band ONE OK ROCK, St. Vincent, All Time Low, Kacey Musgraves, The Libertines, The Offspring, and more.

Last held in 2019, Summer Sonic has suspended its live editions due to COVID-19. In 2020, it aired archival footage from select sets from previous festivals. The traditionally rock festival has since expanded its curation to various genres. Past hip hop acts who performed at Summer Sonic include Nas, Pharrell Williams, Chance the Rapper, BROCKHAMPTON, The Black Eyed Peas, and M.I.A., among others.
