Indonesia’s Ramengvrl has no time for ingenuity in her latest surprise offering, “Fake Friends.” The rising female rapper penned the track live on a Twitch stream, staying true to her origins as an accidental internet superstar since gaining a following with her self-written and produced tracks in 2016.

The singer dropped the lyric video yesterday (November 25) as she performs the track in her room. “Say you wanna get to know me / I can see it clearly / You just want my money,” she raps against the song’s production featuring booming basslines and futuristic synths.

“Fake Friends” builds upon Ramengvrl’s zero tolerance for inauthenticity and pushing back on societal conventions expected from Asian women. She’s continuously explored themes like unhealthy beauty ideals for women and flipped the switch on haters in “I’m Ugly” while celebrating her individuality in her last collaboration with South Korean rapper and producer pH-1 in “Ain’t No MF.”
