Cypress Hill vs. Organized Konfusion vs. WC & The Maad Circle vs. Showbix & A.G. vs. Apache
(Sample: Fred Wesley and The J.B.’s “More Peas”)
Cypress Hill “The Phunky Feel One ” 1991 (Produced by DJ Muggs)
Organized Konfusion “Fudge Pudge ” 1991 (Produced by Organized Konfusion)
WC & The Maad Circle “Behind Closed Doors ” 1991 (Produced by Sir Jinx)
Showbiz & A.G. “Soul Clap ” 1991 (Produced by Showbiz)
Apache “A Fight ” 1993 (Produced by S.I.D. Reynolds)
No one has been sampled in Hip Hop as much as the Godfather of Soul, James Brown. This bassline was a favorite for producers in 1991 (I’m sure others not listed here sampled it as well). For me, this is a two horse race between Southside Queens’ finest and the D.I.T.C. representatives. “Fudge Pudge” and “Soul Clap” are my favorite songs from the respective groups, it is too close to call. I’ll definitely give Showbiz the edge on the production tip, but Pharoahe, Po and O.C. easily better A.G. and Diamond D. Call this one a wash. The bassline doesn’t appear until 7:22 in the source track, for those who want to check it out. Let us know below who your pick is.
Soul Clap is the winner….
cypress hill takes it
cypres>>>>>>>>
its between Cypress Hill and WC & Madd Circle
Yall got it ALL wrong.
Lords of the Underground-Funky Child!
C’mon people!! Fudge Pudge?! Really?!
Stop forgetting L.O.T.U.G. damn.
there’s no way showbiz & a.g. don’t win this one!
Cypress made the best overall song, but as for using the specific line from More Peas, Diamond D did it best. Cypress has a better snare tho. OK was too subdued but they probably went to market before Showbiz and AG. Apache’s was too subdued as well. That WC joint was slowed down and used a fuller sample which in my opinion isn’t as groovy. I don’t know. The way Cypress drops it in and the song quiets down, it’s hard to beat that arrangement, and the snare is definitely better on the Cypress joint. Soul Clap has that whistle tho…
If I had to choose, Cypress wins. Split decision.
