Sometimes Hip Hop can move at a pace too frantic for even the most devoted fan to keep up with. Albums and mixtapes are released at breakneck speed, careers are made and broken with the swipe of a pen, and somewhere in between all the madness actual music (the quality of which vacillates between excellent and god awful) is being made. Twitter provides a nice summary of everything 140 characters at a time. And if you’re the type that would rather not be bothered with stepping into the Twitterverse to catch up on the latest in Hip Hop, we’ve filtered through the top rapper’s tweets and consolidated all the week’s events into one convenient feed.
This week, Mac Miller hitches his label to Warner Bros. wagon, Action Bronson declares he’s got classics, and EL-P shows is lack of love for Taylor Swift’s new one.
Ma$e And Charlamagne Tha God Confrontation
It all started when Charlamagne Tha God, the host of The Breakfast Club, called Ma$e, a rapper turned preacher, a hypocrite. Things got heated when the two ran into each other at the Revolt Music Conference in Miami. It was reported that Ma$e pushed Charlamagne, at which point security intervened. While the two reconciled after, Charlamagne clears the air by stating the rapper did not indeed push him.
Jaden Smith Challenges The Rap Game
Will Smith… Willow Smith.. Jaden Smith. The talent in this family is clearly hereditary. Jaden Smith recently tweeted that he has two or three albums ready to drop. He proceeds to call out anybody who thinks they can rap better than him. Seems like he will be taking a break from the acting and focusing on his musical career. Maybe we’ll get a hit like his sister’s “Whip My Hair”?
Drake Drops New Music Off Views From The 6
Drizzy season is upon us. Nah, let’s just call it YMCMB season. It’s no coincidence that these folks are all dropping tunes at the same time. Drake in his most melancholic way; Nicki at her most queenly, and Wayne’s Tha Carter V enters a plea on Tuesday, October 28. With all this going on, the perfect time for the triumvirate takeover is now and they know it. Tyga chirping about management as the three-headed monster prepares for war is no mere happenstance, either. But all this relies on the superiority of the product, and the hoards of lovers and haters are all at the ready. Here, the T dot emcee drop a pair of songs to go along with last week’s “How About Now” leak. On one side, his Shmurda like “6 God” and on the other, a clever R&B joint called “Heat Of The Moment.”
No Platinum Albums In 2014…Yet
A big thanks to Just Blaze for the fun fact of the week. There has yet to be an album that has hit platinum this year. The last album to do so was the soundtrack to Frozen, a Disney animated film. That was in 2013. Who’s going to step up this year!
Jay Z’s Roc Nation Sports Latest Signee
From rap… to baseball. Jay Z is everywhere. His Roc Nation Sports agency recently signed Yoenis Cespedes, an outfielder for the Boston Red Sox. It is reported that the agency is currently on the hunt for additional agents and firms. They currently rep 11 athletes from different associations, including Kevin Durant from the NBA.
Mac Miller Signs To Warner Bros Records
Mac Miller has stayed on the independent route… until now. The Pittsburgh emcee recently signed with Warner Bros Records, claiming it was “most independent thinking company” he’s met with. The deal is rumored to be worth 10 million dollars. To celebrate, he releases his latest track “Just Some Raps, Nothing To See Here, Move Along.”
Chief Keef Dropped From Interscope
It has been reported that Chief Keef has been dropped from Interscope Records. This is supposedly the result of his legal cases from both 2013 and 2014. The Chi-town rapper signed to Interscope in 2012, in which he released his studio album Finally Rich. Luckily, we caught this Tweet before it was deleted.
Action Bronson Claims His Projects Are Classics
Action Bronson, a New York rapper who is also a bonafide chef, recently takes to Twitter to announce his new project Mr. Wonderful. In doing so, he lists all his past projects, claiming he has more classics out than his idols. Bold statement. Coming up on the scene, he was nominated for Rookie Of The Year for the 2013 BET Hip Hop Awards.
Kanye West Featured In Big Sean’s “IDFWU” Video
MTV recently tweeted a snapshot of Kanye West on the set recording Big Sean’s “IDFWU” video. The song was such a hit, Big Sean even invented an app for it. The photo captures Kanye West as the head coach of a football team. This resembles Kanye West being the founder and leader of GOOD music, the record label Big Sean is signed to.
EL-P Doesn’t Sound Like A Taylor Swift Fan
One half of the dynamic duo Run The Jewels, EL-P is both hilarious on Twitter and better than you at it. So it was hilarious to see his tweet above pretty much go viral, even in the minds of “Swifties,” or what Taylor Swift fans are affectionately called. After the tweet turned into a Pitchfork headline, one particular fan came for El and much to his dismay was met with resistance from the allied Rap forces. His Twitter is now defunct, but we hope the lesson has been learned.
