Hip Hop fans remember that fateful day on October 27, 2009 when Just Blaze stopped by Tony Touch’s Toca Tuesday on SHADE 45. Alongside delivering some snippets of his collaborations with Nas and Saigon, he debuted a groundbreaking single with a man who would become an enigma within the culture. That, ladies and gentleman, was Jay Electronica’s “Exhibit C.” Some time before, Blaze collaborated with New Orleans’ nomadic emcee for “Exhibit A (Transformations),” a track that felt like a dark lyrical exhibition backed by interesting clips from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Before then, J Elect was known around the Internet as the man who used Jon Brion’s soundtrack for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind for his breakout Act 1: Eternal Sunshine (The Pledge) project. Then there was the production credit he received for Nas’ Untitled album intro “Queens Get The Money.” For mainstream, he was Erykah Badu’s newest rapper baby daddy. When “Exhibit C” dropped, Electronica became the rap savior most rap traditionalist had yearned for. Just Blaze’s production was rooted in New York boom bap, yet seemed grounded in the reality of the time. Electronica managed to blend serious lyrical dynamics, poignant personal testimonials and mind boggling moments. Who doesn’t remember bars ranging from “You either build or destroy, where you come from?” or “They call me Jay Electronica, fuck that..” In a time where pop focused raps were clearly taking over, the release of “Exhibit C” sounded like a huge win for real Hip Hop.
Support was mad real for both the single and artist. Electronica received co-signs from heavyweights including Q Tip and Diddy, Jay Z signed him to Roc Nation. Mainstream outlets like MTV and Complex dubbed it an instant classic. He was the people’s champion. Nearly six years since “Exhibit C,” Act 1 follow-up Act II: Patents of Nobility is reaching Detox level wait times and Electronica’s erratic Twitter moments are tarnishing his reputation.
What happened? Jay Electronica may be imploding under the light of his own hype. There was a period of time where he seemed lyrically unfuckwitable as an emcee. Every feature verse or loosie from Electronica were doses of heroin for rap junkies. That was until the cracks began to show. Most noticeably in August 2013 when Big Sean dropped “Control,” with Electronica and Kendrick Lamar. Yes, his verse was serviceable and filled with that signature wizardry many have come to expect from him. However, K.Dot’s verse was atomic and Hip Hop continues to feel the radioactive effects today. Electronica’s tweets downplaying the Good Kid m.A.A.d City rapper’s scene stealing verse felt petty and unnecessary; almost sounding like a sore loser. Then, a video released yesterday of Electronica calling out Drake and J. Cole during a show in London this week pops up.
Jay Electronica calls out Drake… by BKHipHopFestival
For someone who was seen as artistically superior to both at one time, the move was a desperate attempt to stir up beef. Drake is a pop culture force who just left a rap beef unscathed despite huge allegations waged against him. Meanwhile, J. Cole has proven that conscious rhymes and introspective storytelling can be commercially viable. Must hurt that Mr. Jermaine is also signed to Roc Nation as well. Maybe it’s time to call Jay Electronica exactly what he is, a one-hit internet wonder. The novelty that he once was has become an old relic with nothing to offer at the moment. Hip Hop is as healthy as ever. Real lyricist exist on both sides of the mainstream and independent coin. As music consumption changes for more and more on the daily basis, Electronica’s lack of consistency is disappointing. Too bad he doesn’t understand that himself.

Words that end in “-ist” require an “s” to pluralize them. Traditionalists is the plural of traditionalist. Lyricists is the plural of lyricist. And journalists is the plural of journalist, which there seems to be too many of nowadays. DX is trash, from their TMZ style news to their obvious dick-riding reviews to their Senior Editors who don’t know simple grammar.
So who do you write for Chris? Let’s see some of your work.
Im about to throw hhdx in the trashbin just like i did nahright. These college kid mommas boy writers get on my nerves.they need some street niggas that have honor and principles who have been thru some shit write for them.
Piff you don’t need to be a writter to know some basic grammar rules…
Anyone who has attended school so know those grammar rules mentioned by Chris.
Public Meltdown??? Why?? Cause dude called out a self proclaimed “6 god” who buys his lyrics???
Do you ever ask yourself how many other tracks from dude were bought?? Does that not count as “taking an L”?? Smh….
Boycot hiphopdx.com. What kind of article is this? No coherence in arguments.
This article is not good hiphop journalism. Bunch of opinionated mumbo jumbo.
What do you think journalism is? Bahaha opinions! No such thing as an article factual about an art form. Either way though the article is more right than wrong
i did not read this article to know it’s full of shit. thanks for providing a platform to say so. you’d be on his dick if he suddenly dropped an album and call him a legend if he passed. gtfoh
Wow amazing read
You a dick sucking moron
Why does this dude always jump to mad conclussions like they facts ? Like his skewed ass perceptions are fact …….hows does a nigga speaking his mind become. “A desperate atempt to stir up beef” why would a rapper touring around the world with no album be desperate? This nigga ural or oral like i call him is the biggest mommas boy sucker nigga in print
This article can be summarized as follows:
Someone: How you doing Ural Garrett?
Ural Garrett: “I’m mad. Jay Electronica dissed some of my favourite artists. I have to write an article to let the people know that he is just an irrelevant wannabe”
Its just facts…jay technically has done nothingggg for hiphop. How many people do you hear talk about him? I have never had anybody talk about him unless i bring him up. Dudes fell off hardddddd. Why you think jayz wont drop his album? He said its a go, but wht still a no show?
Downplaying Kendrick’s Verse + “J Cole aint got bars like this” = Public Meltdown *R.I.P. Jay electronica! come on man, it sounds like you just wanted to diss Jay by making a bunch of conjecture and assumptions. If you hadn’t noticed yet rappers tend to be arrogant so don’t read too much into it.
For your next article
Headline: Nas having mental breakdown
Story: Nas keeps claiming he’s the king of New York, but New York doesn’t have kings just mayors, clearly hes fallen off and gone crazy.
Drake must’ve cut a check with several zeros.
You niggas are dick-riders.
I see it like this “exhibit c” and “exhibit a” are in my iPod, while Eddie Munster has yet to create a classic classic.
Yes, the nigga can’t create a catchy radio song. But, can he move my soul? That’s yet to be seen.
How is this pro-Drake? All it points out is that Jay Electronica has done nothing for half a decade and is relying on Stans like you to sing his praises. But hey, some loosies every couple of years sure makes a great artist. Ya dingus.
Instead of acting like a dumbass maybe you would enjoy some tasty hot wings.
Sanders…and what, releasing a bunch of half-cocked bullshit in bulk does make you a great artist? DOn’t get me wrong, I wish Jay Electronica would release more music, but I am not mad at him for not flooding the internet with uninspired music for the sole purpose of making a buck and appeasing his fans.
Rap game has become so sensitive, with radio single this, radio single that. Jay Elect just pointing out. Some of these rappers don’t dig deep, from their soul. It’s bubble gum plastic rap.
And he provides what? Some loosies and an EP half a decade ago? You want to point shit out? Fair play. You have to back it up though and old ass material doesn’t cut it.
Enjoy a family meal.
Trash from a trash grammatically skewed drake dick sucka…
Eye overstand what Sean price meant when he said “eye love fans but fuck em”…Hip hop fans are some of the most jump ship turncoat fans in all genres of music..
Silly ass mortals…jay electronica did not have a meltdown,b..He basically stated his claim on the game the same way Kendrick did on control..so did Kendrick have a “meltdown” too? Kendrick verse had energy but at the core of it all it was mumbo jumbo rappity rap..muslim on pork? Gtfoh…Jay electronica spits parables and scrolls for real thinkers..What he said is truth..Cole is nice but he’s not spitting soul touching bars like Jay E
Your grammar is horrendous. If you want to make a point at least do it like an adult.
Yes because jay has released sooooo much…you are a dick rider if a one hit wonder. If he comes out with some fire then cool, but until then he is a sad tool one hit wonder
That’s your opinion that he’s a one hit wonder..When it comes to pure hip hop in its essence,a “hit” to me is a song that touches my soul not a song that is popularized by mass media..Personally,eye think he has multiple hits..Run & hide,my world,DMT,exhibit A & C,voodoo man, etc…
I dont usually dig hiphopdx editorials but the article is on-point. Jay Electronica was amazing and in fact, plenty of his tracks showed so much promise but to think its been more than 5 years since Exhibit C, its clear dude has got lazy or too much of a perfectionist. He has pretty much lost his opportunity. Even if he drops a critically-acclaimed album, his early fans have already moved on. I mean when he came out, hiphop sounded so different. And yes his actions are embarassing. J Cole, Kendrick and Drake have all dropped several albums over the last 5 years. What is he doing? He’s lost.
The nigga has been swimming in White pussy, who can blame him. He dated that skinny billionaire woman who always looked sad and then she got mad at him for always being around the skinny blonde model. He’s experiencing dissonance right now and can’t focus. On one hand he hates the White man, on the other hand he’s discovered that only White women can truly satisfy his carnal urges. Most succesful brothers get addicted to White women. Kanye, Tyga, Duke Ellington, Ronde and Tiki Barber, John Legend, Barry Bonds, Kid Cudi, Phrarrell, Fabolous, Ice-T, Scottie Pippen, Ray Allen, Sammie Davis Jr., Doc Rivers, Reggie Bush, all the men in Wayans family, Terrance Howard, Tim Duncan, Sidney Poitier, Raphael Saadiq, Ne-Yo, Harry Belafonte, Prince, Don Cornelious, Eddie Murphy, Booker T Washington, Jimi Hendrix, Lovie Smith, Randy Moss…I could go on, you get the point.
this is bullshit keep this up your site is dead straight up
Bravo!
It’s about time you guys you cut through the BS and pointed out real shit.
Simple really. Everything in this article should be obvious already. I hate to break it to everyone but this is a matter of understanding music and having good taste. Only people with personal issues bash artists like Drake etc. on the internet in order to seek validation. But you don’t understand music, you only benefit from it. Proof is not understanding what it is to create. The collaborative effort, the bouncing back and forth of ideas, melodies, and direct inspiration. Nothing is original and nothing belongs to us. So any talk of ‘ghostwriting’ or ‘buying verses’ is ridiculous. You have to enjoy and understand music on a conscious level in order to lay down consistent hit tracks. No ones going to take the time to tell you this
“Only people with personal issues bash artists like Drake”? Are you serious? The nigga has yet to release a classic Hip Hop album, an album that scores across the board–without a shadow of a doubt dope. Come on, the nigga is going on his fourth or fifth album. How many chances should this nigga get?
Can he make a catch song? Yes. Anyone can do that shit, especially if they have a team of writers and producers–a la Puff Daddy, Diddy, or whatever he calls himself these days.
And, yes, I mentioned the ghostwriting issue. Why? Because of how he did that shit. Listen, Cube had someone ghostwrite for him. LL had someone ghostwrite for him. Niggas in the Wu swapped verses. Lauryn Hill had ghostwriters. But, do you know the difference between them and Eddie Munster? With the exception of Lauryn Hill, which I will address in a second, all the aforementioned didnt hide the fact that they had ghostwriters. Everyone knew that shit. They didnt hide it. That nigga Drake hid that shit. And Meek revealing that shit wasnt the first time we heard of Eddie Munster having ghostwriters–his homie in Canada said that shit way back in ’08, and people simply brushed it under the rug. I guess no one thought he be on Sprite ads standing next to Nas and Rakim.
Another reason people didnt care if people like Cube or LL had ghostwriters is the fact that their product was undeniably dope. And that goes for Lauryn as well. If Eddie Munster made a universally appealing album, then I would most likely not give two fucks who wrote that shit. But, no, his shit is solely geared towards bitches and gay niggs in their feelings and shit, and not everyone who enjoys Hip Hop. And thats why everyone didnt care if Lauryn had ghostwriters–her shit was for everyone, and not just own group of people.
Oh yeah, another reason people may have a problem with his ghostwriting is, because hes not doing anything else to justify a need for a ghostwriter. Has he released a major film? Or, does he have a television series on television? Hell no to both! All hes done is tour and do endorsement appearances. That nigga has time to write. Shit. Thats another reason people let LL and Cube slide–they were super-duper busy. And you could understand that shit. Writing isnt easy, especially if you have 500 million other obligations.
Bottom line: No on has issues if they simply want to tell the truth. The nigga is wack….from a universal appeal angle.
The only reason shit sites like Hip Hop DX and others defend him is because corporate America is banking on exploiting him in the near future like they did Will Smith. He has a lot of benefactors to compensate. They wont let him go down without a fight.
You mean to tell me that Take Care ain’t a classic? It was named the best album of 2012 by the Los Angeles Times and The New York Times, and was ranked number three by Now and MTV, number four by Slate, number five by Billboard and The Washington Post, number seven by Fact, number eight by The Globe and Mail, NPR, and Pitchfork. In 2012, Complex named the album one of the classic albums of the last decade. Take Care won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. In October 2013, Complex named it the fourth-best hip hop album of the last five years. In January 2015, Billboard named it the sixth-best album of 2010s. That sounds like a critically-acclaimed classic album to me.
OVOFACTS…Did you just cite a bunch of white folk shit? Oh yeah, throw in a few niggas with a valley accent for flavor. Who gives a fuck about Billboard magazine? Who gives a fuck about the LA times? Who gives a fuck the NY Times? (Wasnt Superheads book on their bestsellers list? Nigga, please) Who gives a fuck about the Slate? Who gives a fuck about the Washington Post? Nobody who really appreciates music. Do you know how many great albums get bad reviews by all the above? Nigga, please.
And dont get me wrong, I know why your silly ass uses them as a barometer. Sometimes we all need an official publication to justify our love of something. Too bad the Source lost its credibility. Because, honestly, everyone used to look to them for justification to praise album. But, you know what? Even they dropped the ball sometimes–for instance, they didnt classify Dre’s “The Chronic” a classic.
And your simple ass just proved my point in your attempt to disprove my point. Everyone you used as a barometer is a part of a major corporation. So, wouldnt they want to exalt Eddie Munster with hopes of him selling more Coke, Gucci, Apple products, or whatever they can use his face for to plaster all over their publications?
Does your ass even know what makes a classic classic? Shit, I had to Google “Take Care” to remember the tracklisting. That shit doesnt happen with classics.
You are an alpha Drake hater. I drop facts and you just reply with they’re wrong. Did you watch Kendrick Lamar interview NWA on Billboard? When Dr. Dre and company were asked by Kendrick Lamar which artists today they like and listen to/are creative and furthering hip-hop, the 3rd name out Dr. Dre’s mouth was Drake. That’s right Drake. Dr. Dre thinks Drake is good for hip-hop culture and is creative force in the game. DJ Premier had Take Care listed as his favourite album of 2012 in his year end list, and is on record as saying he listens to Drake and is a big fan of 40’s production. I’ll listen to what 2 of the greatest producers in the history of music have to say about Drake over you. You can add Royce Da 5’9, Crooked I and countless other reputable hip-hop artists to that list. Thanks for coming out though.
OVOFACTS…You got one thing right. I’m an alpha motherfucker who doesn’t need some beta-estrogen-filled-half-breed weakening our youths minds with his black feminist rhetoric.
And, guess what? I don’t give a fuck what Dre or Premiere have to say, too. Those niggad are too PC, like most established artist, to give an unfiltered opinion. The same corporation that’ll defend drake are associated with both Dre and preemo. Especially Dre motherfucker. He’s with apple just like drake, right? Niggas, that’s called business. Anyway, why would I listen to Dre? What has he released that’s made a mark? That stumbled across Kendrick. If top dog wasn’t the nigga he is, Dre would’ve passed up on Kendrick like a motherfucker.
And Royce and crooked? Those niggas can’t even create a decent album. What do they know? Nigga, please.
What, are you the type that needs others to approve of your likes to like them? You’re a weak ass nigga.
Lastly, I’m not a hater. I just hate dickriding bitches with no opinion of their own.
@Will A book being on a best sellers list is not comparable to an album getting rave reviews. Superhead’s book didn’t get rave reviews, it wasn’t on best book of the year lists. Such a stupid comparsion.
Criss…After everything I’ve said, you pick to talk about a silly ass book?
Nigga, shut the fuck up.
Eh, yes and no. This was a pretty bias article. He’s certainly more than a “one hit internet-wonder.” It is what it is I suppose.
This is bad journalism.
Because you disagree with their opinion? You’re a simp
“My swag is on 1.21 gigawatts, 10 trillion kilowatts
Hardcore Thriller pop, Michael Jackson, nigga rock
Google me, baby, understand where I’m coming from
My destiny’s to hit a grand slam when my number come
All hail the lyrical, Grand Wizard Imperial
Nigga signed the dotted line with Hov, that’s a miracle
And I ain’t leave the thugs alone
The humble in me will surely inherit the mud we on
And shoot up every club we clone
The flow is too atomic
The poetry’s too Qu’ran-ic, the young prophet Muhammad
And I could drop a verse to change the whole vibration
The whole Roc Nation, the whole Live Nation
So pour libation
Beware, but prepare for the polarization, it’s the globalization
Warn all the clergymen and notify Satan
I been waiting, this the notarization, I been patient”
No one can slay like Jay can. I for one could care less if and when he does or doesn’t drop an album, plenty of material there to justify his legacy as a game changer…dudes a poet, plain and simple.
I find it amazing that he’s been touring since 09 and hasn’t dropped an album, with some of the most loyal fans I’ve seen since tupac, and a library of snippets, averaging three minutes in most cases, that evoke more emotion and thought than some of the aforementioned artists’s albums combined over the same amount of time I.e better in tune…
great comment!
that song is on a list of mine that when im dying i want to hear that song.
NOT FEELING THESE BIASED EDITORIALS.
Biased. Editorial.
Is
An
Oxymoron.
For one, I think most of you don’t know what the word editorial means. An editorial is a statement of opinion. It may have facts, but the author is using their writing to reflect their beliefs. Secondly, I won’t go as far and say Jay is having a meltdown. However I agree that he’s not the god mc because he has nothing to show for it. I’m not a Cole or Drake fan like that, but they have a discography. And if you believe that his lyrics have more depth and meaning than most (decent argument), what about Kendrick (Sec 80, Good Kid, Pimp) or Lupe (F&L2/Testuo)? His lyrics from 2009 can’t maintain that type of respect. I hope he drops more material. He has potential. But until he drops work, he’s failing.
yeah but just cause its their opinion doesn’t mean it has any value or relevance, especially if ignorant, ill-informed or lacking anything to back it up.
I guess. But maybe hes like sade…and could give two fucks about whats expected of him…
To be honest, I enjoyed reading the comments and discourse beneath the article more than the article itself.
If this is an attempt to turn reality – with maybe the hopes of even swaying Jay Electronica himself. I’m glad i’m here. This is silly. and unappreciative. Enjoy what the rhymer gives. His “enigma” presence and the little music he does share is just as valuable to the culture. If we all die from the earth and he never gives us more good shit maybe so but no bro – too soon – too thirsty to write this “good article” – also – tweets don’t ruin reputations. maybe annoy and touch the public the wrong way but he’s a rhymer man. these niggas ain’t politicians jack
i’d say azalea banks’ tweets have definitely ruined her reputation.
Biggie had less songs than Jay Elec and you could argue that Jay at his best is better than Big at his best. Or at least a deeper, more thought provoking lyricist. Yet Big is in almost everyones top 10. I still listen to Victory, WTF is a Jay Elec?, and all his loosies and features constantly. Quality always trumps quantity… Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison, Hendrix arent amazing artists just because they didnt put out much music. What about Dre? He will forever be a legend off 3 albums (now 4) over 30 years. Let the man work at his own pace. Yea I am patiently waiting still, but if delivers, its worth it. But there are 100 dope emcees out there to hold me over. At the end of the day, I think Jay Elec has more potential than any artist he mentioned (him and Kendrick come close), but I’d respect him more if he let his work speak for itself.
However, I agree that he cant go down as a legend without at least 100 songs (I dont give s fuck if theyre loosies, EPs, whatever. Drop em at whatever rate you want).
Lol, i agree with some of the points in the article, but meltdown? seriously? do you know what a meltdown is? Stop it. First of all, what he said about Cole, Kendrick and Drake was at a VERY small London show. I was there, he wasn’t dissing them, he was just talking his shit and feeling the energy of the crowd. As per usual it’s the blogs LIKE HIPHOPDX that hyped this situation into some half-cooked ‘beef’ like that word even means anything anymore (to see the real definition youtube ‘Beef-Mos Def’).
Second of all y’all don’t REALLY listen to Jay Elec. Pseudo-fans like the writer of this article say they like Exhibit C but don’t listen to much else of his material. If you think that Kendrick Control verse is anything more than lukewarm bars and hyped up name dropping, then cool, do you, but you don’t actually want what Jay has to give you. Just last year he released a song called ‘Better In Tune with the Infinite’ which to me HASN’T BEEN TOPPED SINCE IT DROPPED. That shit is one of THE greatest hip hop songs and verses EVER to me, but it’s not some shit that blogs like hiphopdx want to pay attention to. Listen to that song, NOBODY rhymes like that, not Cole, not Kendrick and certainly not Drake/Quentin Miller.
I think the writer is referring to some of his twitter meltdowns…
If you didn’t think his verse on Control was great then hip hop probably isn’t something you’ve listened to for very long.
Exactly! He had the best verse on there.
He might by doing this for a buzz before the album.
Bad publicity is still publicity. That’s why artist do what they do. PR stunt
Unless, he’s just expressing how he feels. We’ll just have to wait and see lol.
lol a couple tweets is a meltdown? gtfoh. These bummy ass editorials…
What he said is what every emcee should feel. On top of that you’re criticizing him for making the same point Kendrick Lamar was making on control. Get you cocksuckin reading comprehension up. Tryin so hard not to come to this site, but its an ingrained bad habit.
Ural is the most retarded and uninformed, uneducated blogger on the internet. This was no attempt to create “beef”… wth are you talking about? This is Hip Hop, just like K Dot said hes better than everybody thats new school.
Jay Electronica a one hit wonder? What hit? Exhibot C?? That was released UNDERGROUND, FOR FREE! If you really think exhibit C is the only hit record he got then you need to QUIT covering Hip Hop. You are not a journalist or a blogger, you are a troll! From now on everybody should ignore this Ural fool
URAL Garret got into his feelings bc The God said Ural’s boy-love-crush Drake is not King. GAY!
Every time this IDIOT Ural Garrett writes he makes people mad with his non sense. Just like he gave his 5 reasons why Iggy is Hip Hop and then lists stuff that have Nothing to do with Hip Hop
this bum ass blogger/troll again. you stay getting your feelings hurt. stupidest editorial from i’ve read in a long time.
what the fuck did I just read. Horrible article
GTFOH this generation is lost. DX staff full of zombies
Jay is a great lyricist. He is not a great musician. He does not make great music.
What are commenters taking about. Dude likes jay electronica, we all do. He’s just disappointed like you should be
HAHAHA! This guy Ural is a huge Drake fan clearly. Either that or they must be paying him. Meanwhile he is trying to be slick saying Drake came out of that corny beef unscathed is simply not true. Everyone keeps talking about ghostwriters and reference tracks. In the history of rap music. Not one artist ever got caught using reference tracks. Sad Article, really really sad.
Jay Z uses reference tracks, look them up on youtube. Look up Lucifer… Kayne writes the hook and Kanye coaches Jay on cadence.
Sadly, you are sad.
Name your favourite rapper who makes Billboard and I’ll dig up a “reference” tracks and “ghostwriters” like Meek and Flex did about Drake. I not even a Drake fan but what Meek and Flex did was weak. Ever thought why no major Hip Hop (New or old school) artist even after hearing the Meek reference tracks and finding out about Miller has called out Drake or even supports Meek assertions?
Ural loves wieners in his bum bum! Jay Electronica dropped Road to Perdition this year.. listen to that track and tell me he fell off. Ural you should be fired!!!!
road to perdition has been around in some format since 2013…so um…try again
Finally people are catching on that this dude is just another loudmouth lame.
First off these comments are ridiculous. Just because you disagree with an article doesn’t mean it’s bad journalism nor does it mean you need to drop a bunch of childish gay slurs and jokes for junior high kids. Now the point in the article I disagree with is the calling out for beef. Hip-hop has always been competitive and part of what makes it enjoyable is artists stepping up their game to show they’re better lyricists. This is a new concept in hip-hop that beef is unacceptable and everyone needs to get along. To praise Kendrick for Control but discredit Jay’s intentions makes no sense. It would make sense that Jay calls out Drake since Drake is currently getting praise for the Meek diss and Jay feels that he doesn’t deserve it. That’s what makes hip-hop and I’m curious if the journalist understands that concept of hip-hop or is possibly too young to appreciate when that was the norm. I praise Jay Electronica for trying to spark some competition because hip-hop has become stale with collabs and everyone trying to sound the same and hop on tracks with the flavor of the week rapper. But just because I disagree with the journalist doesn’t mean it’s a shit editorial or that he likes men. Maybe I’m just too mature for this genre now…
It’s bad journalism because it’s unfounded, biased, opinion. Journalism is supposed to be about presenting facts and being objective.
Kendrick’s control verse really was a lot of hyper delivered sounding nonsense with no real content.
Maybe Jay doesn’t like Drake because he doesn’t think he writes his own lyrics. Maybe he thinks that Cole was right about using his light skinned complexion to sell more…who knows. Maybe Jay is upset that both artists make radio records that aren’t authentic high quality hip hop.
Author doesn’t seem to think. He’s merely bashing.
I don’t like Jay Electronica’s antics and personality either but I will at least be as fair and rational as possible in my criticisms of him.
This.m blog not the Source it can be strictly based in opinion. Learn what journalism is.
Spot on!
Jay is not at level yet where he can start calling out or downplaying Kendrick, J. Cole or Drake.
He needs to worry about his music first.
remember he dropped road to perdition this year tho, probably the best hip hop track of the year. theres NOTHING on Dre or kendrick individually as good.
road to perdition has been around in some format since 2013…
Don’t get the hype with this Jey Electronica cat, dudes released about 1 song in the past 5 years Bruh! Everyone knows that Andre 2 stacks is the truth, he’d murder Jey and any of these fronters on the mic!
And WHEN was the last time he dropped something
There was a period of time where he seemed lyrically unfuckwitable as an emcee. Every feature verse or loosie from Electronica were doses of heroin for rap junkies. That was until the cracks began to show. Most noticeably in August 2013 when Big Sean dropped “Control,” with Electronica and Kendrick Lamar – Just love this part!
One of Jay electronica’s songs from 2008(eternal sunlight on a spotless mind) shits on Drake’s, Kendrick’s and J Cole’s whole catalog. Fact not an opinion.( if your a true listener)
doesn’t matter bruh he still haven’t dropped anything
Plenty of other good jay electronics tracks to call him a one hit wonder jazzmetazz, dimethyltriptamine, so what you saying, victory is in my clutches, rennaisance man and hasn’t released his album because his dating a billionaire or some shit even though just blaze said it 80% done and jay had another couple tracks to do just cause he got lazy and doesn’t give a Fk doesn’t mean his a bad rapper..
The album ain’t out because it ain’t commercial, goes against the grain of the agenda, and would put a bunch of lames outta business. How many years does it take for you guys to understand Roc Nation has to put it out, not Jay Electronica? Don’t the Roc have TIDAL? My words are why this conversation has become redundant. You cats just don’t understand the politics of things.
What about the verse on that PRhyme song? EXREMELY DOPE. And that was just a year ago. FOH with this.
