As we move towards the end of the year, the 2021 HipHopDX Rising Stars haven’t let up yet, and some of them are just starting to receive the acknowledgement for their hard work.

On Thursday (September 9) BET announced their nominees for the 2021 BET Hip Hop Awards taking place on Tuesday (October 5). In the category of Best New Hip Hop Artist, a few of the DX Rising Stars were nominated along with Pooh Sheisty, Don Toliver and Coi Leray.

As we know, last year 2021 HipHopDX Rising Star Flo Milli was nominated for the same category, but the late Pop Smoke swiped that win. However, this year the Best New Hip Hop Artist award is up for grabs by Rising Stars Yung Bleu, Morray and Blxst. Hopefully one of them can snag this award this time around.

Yung Bleu, Flo Milli, DDG, 42 Dugg + More: Why 2021 DX Rising Stars Are The Best New Rappers

2021 HipHopDX Rising Star Yung Bleu took to his Instagram to announce his well-deserved nomination, captioned with a simple, “Cut like that.”

Yung Bleu’s nomination comes just in time as he just dropped his feature-packed debut album Moon Boy, embarked on his first headlining tour, and even just announced a major decision to drop the “Yung” from his name and go by BLEU in all caps.

BLEU followed up his nomination announcement with another Instagram post stating that he had decided to drop the “Yung” from his name, as he enters a “new chapter” in his life.

BLEU’s decision to change his name right before the 2021 BET Hip Hop Awards is comparable to how Latto (formerly known as Mulatto) announced her name change while in an interview with DX at the 2020 BET Hip Hop Awards.

“It is a controversy that I hear and see every day as far as my name goes, so I would be lying to say no I never thought of that,” Latto told DX. “But I can’t say too much because right now, because it’s going to be a part of something bigger.”

Although BLEU’s name hasn’t caused any controversy so far in his budding music career, he did find himself in a little “beef” when BET didn’t include him in the 2021 BET Awards nominations for Best New Artist, but did include newcomer Coi Leray. BLEU took his frustration to Instagram where his words were assumed to be for Coi, but later he cleared the air.

TIRED OF BEING QUIET SOMETIMES I BE WONDERING WHO ASS I GOTTA KISS TO STOP BEING SHITTED ON,” BLEU wrote on Instagram in a now-deleted post. “@bet YALL NO THATS SOME BULLSHIT! DNT SAY YALL DNT CONSIDER ME A NEW ARTIST EITHER CUZ Y’all think I POPped UP AFTER YOUR MINES STILL! APPLUAD EVERY ARTIST ON THE LIST YALL DESERVE IT but I BEEN GRINDING! NOT 1 single artist ON THIS LIST GOT MORE PLAQUES THAN ME!”

This time around there is no denying that BLEU has proven himself to be a Rising Star. DX is excited to see what he does going forward as big BLEU now!

Another 2021 HipHopDX Rising Star, Morray, also shared his good news via IG with a montage of his career milestones thus far, complimented with his song “Bigger Things,” from Street Sermons.

Morray is another deserving Rising Star who has trailblazed for the last 8 months of DX covering him. With his latest feature on J. Cole’s “my.life” and his multiple performances on festival stages, Morray continues to cement his name in the game.

Like BLEU and Morray, fellow 2021 HipHopDX Rising Star Blxst received the same news this week that he too is nominated for the Best New Hip Hop Artist Award.

Blxst recently featured on Nas’ “Brunch on Sundays” from King’s Disease II and also was featured on BET for the “NLL Experience” to celebrate the one year anniversary of his album No Love Lost dropping.
