Dear Loyal HipHopDX readers. We have a lot, and I mean a lot to discuss. I have been steering this site for over 16 years, and you have heard from me very very little.
I will do better.
Over the next couple months we are making significant changes to HipHopDX. All of which we hope are for the better, but without your feedback we may build things that might not make a difference, are not intuitive or god forbid are just not user friendly. We want your feedback.
HipHopDX is a very large site. According to ComScore, the Nielsen ratings of the internet, over 3.4 million readers (2.7 million Americans) visit our site every month. This means we have to think and test our changes. Unfortunately we can’t move as quickly as we’d like. So as we make changes we will outline them on this page—Behind The Site (BTS). This is where, I want to know what you think. I’m open to all feedback. Give me the good, the bad and the absolute ugly.
Enjoy the first round of updates and we will be looking for your comments below. I do want to build with all the fans and the haters, so let’ go!
Here is what’s new on the Desktop version of HipHopDX.
Comments
Most of the commenters/readers have been complaining about our Comments Section for some time. There has been SPAM, it looks terrible, It’s hard to follow etc.. Contrary to popular belief, we do read our comments and we are listening. Welcome to comments v2.0. It’s gorgeous, it’s beautiful, easy to read, easy to understand and of course easy to comment! The experience you have been enjoying on mobile has now been brought to desktop.
We have designed a series of avatars for people who don’t have Gravatar. Sign up for Gravatar if you want your image to appear or wait for a new login system which is coming later this summer. We have inline replies
, voting up or down a comment
, and we now have a way to Flag
comments that you feel don’t represent the community we are trying to build.
Breaking News & Announcements
Sometimes a news story is too important to miss. Sometimes we have a new feature that we want you to know about. We will use this new announcement box to tell you about it. Click and you shall receive.
Album Releases
This section has been broken for a while. It needed some TLC (T-Boz, Left Eye & Chilli… Just kiding: Tender, Loving, Care) and we’re giving it some. We are not 100% there yet with the layout but we are enjoying where we are so far. Most importantly, it works!
Click on the “Year” and/or the “Month”
and the “Dates”
below will change. Any album without a date means we don’t know it yet. Like Yeezy said: “Release dates are played…” We’re all adjusting to the new world together. Previous dates will be accurate. Future dates in Hip Hop are… these days… a work in progress.
Search
For a while now we have known that search has needed some work, so we are starting with a few cosmetic changes and then moving on to the search results. This is a big project so be patient and we will make the results just as great .
We have updated the input field. Click on the search icon and the input field appears. Type whatever you want
then press enter (or hit the search icon) and you will get the search results
.
The Header
We gave the header an update. Cleaned it up, and made it more user friendly.
The HipHopDX logo has moved from the left to the center. In Yo’ Face!
- Social Share buttons have moved from the right of the header to the left of the header. Plus we have added numbers that update in real time to each one. We don’t buy Likes!
- The new menu is taller and more spacious
. We’ve broken-out our catch-all categories “Audio” and “Features,” to make it easier for you to find exactly what you’re searching for: Singles, Interviews, Editorials. Room to breathe!
The Footer
Just like the header, this section needed cleaning, it was looking a little messy. There were a lot of links and little organization. We now have four columns/categories: Sections, Connect, More Info & Our Sites.
Sections: These are the quick links to all the different areas this site has to offer.
Connect: We live off of DX as much as we do on DX. We have our social feeds Facebook, Twitter & Instagram. Our video hub on YouTube and our RSS feed you can integrate into any rss reader.
More Info: is for you to learn more about our business (Behind the Site – BTS), connect with us (Advertising and Contact Us), or understand what you can or cannot do on the site (Terms of Use & Privacy Policy)
Our Sites: Cheri Media, the parent company, is larger than just HipHopDX. Dive in and check out all of the things our company has to offer.
Finally, we now allow you to jump back and forth between mobile and desktop views of HipHopDX. Click on “View On Mobile” and enjoy.
Like I said, we want to hear from you. Give me the good, the bad and the absolute ugly. Post your thoughts below.
Sooooooooo I think it looks pretty cool. Does that count for anything? Yes it does? Cool!!!
HHDX has become a haven for nerds.
I hop hiphopdx goes from strength to strength i dont go xxl or those other places now…can you put more uk music on ? Please google AR-15 Presents out in the jungle ft sneakbo bigz. i think you should reach out to the uk !

whats your analytics say?
The site looks better, but make it wider as it looks stupid on a 2560×1440 screen.
I find the new design quite good, fresh and functional !
The comment section is way better than before.
To finish Hip-HopDx, there is something i’ve been waiting for a long time. When I click on a song of an artist (let’s say on the main page), i’ll be happy to find next to the music player on the right side, a historic of all the songs you posted of this same guy. That would be dope !
Cause sometimes it feels like if you are not on HipHopDx everyday you can miss out some tunes. Some tunes you’ll may never hear again that can be dope. A historic per artist could fix this.
Congrats so far for the work you’ve been doing HHDX.
A regular french reader. Salute !
Great idea Tom, coding and design take time but in the next 6 months we should be able to get that feature rolled out. However, don’t hate on coming to the site everyday ; ). That’s why we do this, to make you obsessed with HipHopDX.
Better than the previous design. As long as the trolls and spam are being taken care of.
Ben, you should see an overall decrease in trolls and spam already, but just so you know we will be taking another few whacks at this over the coming months.
Soo fresh too cool
looking better. you still need a iOS app, that will allow you to stream the singles you post.
Nick, that would be one of the few reasons we would do an iOS app. It’s on our mind, for sure.
plus this font is terrible!! please switch back to times new roman
Screw everything about Times New Roman. Are we back in ’95?
Being able to right click and open link in new tab would be nice for the Singles section.
Use the middle mouse button instead, faster and easier to open links in a new tab.
Still won’t let me.
Oh yeah, sorry – I assumed that would work but it seems not to work either. :/
Shout Out Yall Love Ya HipHopDX from South Africa
Glad to see you guys over at hiphopdx making some changes to the site. In my opinion the only gripe I have with the site is that you guys could make the articles more approachable and more enticing to read, other than that I think the site is great! As it is.
I’ll just be happy to see all these trolls get bounced finally. Been like 4 years of homo erotic Young Money trolls spamming the comment section, honestly made me come on here less.
Keep up the good work.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!! Most of the comments are from trolls that proclaim themselves ymcmb fans (only to turn on the artists when they express other desires)
Why don’t you make an option where people can just create accounts on this? Rather than every time you wanna join a conversation you gotta write your name and email.
Keta, you read our mind. I can’t give you a date yet but yes creating an account is coming.
Hi i am Wesley Carnicle i am wondering what cms are you using to do the id and the theme you are using
1. There’s TOO much space between the comments
2. You need HOT-looking chicks hosting the HipHopDx Daily videos, or, at least some people with more energy. All of the host you have are too calm and a bit boring.
3. You need to have more VIDEO CONTENT. Most people like me will stop using HipHopDx because it doesn’t offer much video or photo content. That’s why I leave and instead head over to sites like VLADTV that offer news information and visual content.
4. You need to include some funny articles or pictures and hip-hop related subjects to your site. Try adding funny memes of hip-hop stars, funny news, or include information about Sneakers, Clothes, Cars, etc… But of course, make sure it’s in good taste and you don;t lose the integrity of your website.
5. Add some exclusive content, such as interviews.
Hope all this helps.
