“Get Yourself A Gun,” the first single from Nas’ upcoming “Stillmatic” LP has a video that might shock some people. The video features reenactments of the murders of both 2Pac and Biggie. While neither of these are meant to be slanderous, even Nas realizes that he could ruffle some feathers with this video. For this reason, Nas did take some appropriate measures before releasing the video. He went to the mothers of both slain rappers and to Puffy and Suge. He did not approach them seeking their permission but to warn them of what they were going to see.
There has been no word of what the reactions of Afeni and Violetta were but the reactions of Puffy and Suge were both positive and they both embraced the video.
Be sure to check out another track on Nas’ album called “Ether,” which is a response to Jay’s “The Takeover.” As bad as Jay murdered Nas and Prodigy on that track Nas does get some measure of revenge. I’d still give the edge to Jay-Z but Nas gets some great shots in, especially in the last verse when he really goes off. Just keep it in the studio fellas.
