Hip Hop Album Sales: Week Ending 10/8/2006

A pretty quiet week in terms of Hip Hop releases making
noise on Soundscan. The only new Hip Hop/R&B album to crack the top 10.
Monica’s Makings Of Me opened up at #8 with 92,784 sold. Monica was still
outsold by Ludacris in his 2nd week as Release Therapy moved 112,611
units this week putting it at 422k sold to date and nearing Gold status.

Elsewhere on the charts, Robin Thicke’s Evolution of Robin debuted at #45 (20k sold) and Sleepy Brown’s Mr. Brown made it to #53 (18k
sold). Chrome Children did well for an indy release. It scanned 5000 units to open up at #182 with
    little distribution.

Lupe Fiasco and Chingy are still neck and neck on the
charts. Hoodstar is moving just a tad more than Food & Liquor. Chingy
landed at #38 this week with a shade under 25k sold (137k to date) while Lupe
is a few notches below at #43 with 20k sold (133k to date).

Rick RossPort of Miami finally made Gold in its 9th
week. Ross pushed another 25k this week and cracked the gold line with 522k
sold. Gnarles Barkley is looking like it should crack the Platinum line with
St. Elsewhere at 984,658 sold to date (19k this week). Beyonce is also nearing
Platinum as B’Day moved another 54k and put her at just under 920k sold in her
5th week on the charts. Nobody is catching Justin Timberlake as
singer moved another 115,000 cds to place him #5 on the charts and bringing his
sales total to almost 1.2 million in just 4 weeks.

Next week Lloyd BanksRotten Album debuts on the charts.
How will it do in its first week? Check with us next week to find out.
