Jay-Z Debuts At Number One

While many perceived Chris Brown’s Exclusive as Jay-Z’s biggest chart competition for American Gangster, it was Hip Hop’s old friend Garth Brooks and The Eagles  that gave Hov his biggest challenge. Nevertheless, Jay-Z debuted at #1 on this week’s Soundscan.

The Def Jam president scanned 424,959 copies of what some critics are deeming his best work. The effort surpassed Don Henley and The Eagles’ Out Of Eden, who in its second week, sold just shy of 360,00 units. Chris Brown landed at Number Four, just under the 300,000 mark.

Jay-Z was the only rapper occupying the first nine slots of the charts this week. As for Number Ten and onward, stay tuned for DX’s Soundscan Report later today.
