Since before the time of G-Unit’s meteoric rise to the top of the Hip Hop, Sha Money XL has been synonymous with the brand’s name.
Now, the producer behind “Poor Lil Rich” and “This Is 50” has signed on to Def Jam to become the senior VP of A&R at the storied label. In an interview with MTV, Sha spoke on the new position, and where that leaves G-Unit.
“I’ve been floating around this industry since I’ve just been executive-producing 50 [Cent]’s albums,” said Sha Money. “Freelancing, doing my own thing. I’ve been able to meet with L.A. Reid. We’ve been having some great conversations. Finally, the call came. It felt so good. Def Jam is such a strong company and strong roster. The staff is amazing. I felt it instantly. I knew that this is something I can do with my New York vision and New York swag and bring that for all the guys that’s based out here. And the things that was needed to excite the industry as well, internally and externally. I connect with everybody by all levels.”
XL expressed nothing but confidence, explaining, “I work good under pressure. Working with 50, I know what needs to get done. I don’t feel pressure. I do the things that need to be done. As long as artists listen and we really become businessmen in this business, as we say we are, I think we should all prosper. I’m looking to make the company more money and take it to the top, the highest level.”
Sha Money also broached the matter of brining G-Unit – including 50 Cent,, Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo – to Def Jam. “I spoke to Fif, to [his manager Chris] Lighty. I would love to see that there,” said Sha of the matter. “Banks has an amazing record right now, independently. If things work out, then yeah, I would love to see that happen.”
The producer dismissed any concerns with bringing G-Unit to a label that has a number of rappers with whom the crew has beefed, including Rick Ross, Nas, Shyne and DJ Khaled.
Currently, Sha Money is working to get Juelz Santana’s album out.
Gotta give it to Sha Money XL. For the most part, he played the back while 50 got the fame(and fortune). Congrats to dude. Hopefully, he does things the right way and don’t try to bring that Interscope mentality to Def Jam. As far as G-Unit on Def Jam…I don’t know how or if that’ll happen but we’ll see
get that money. cats still hating on g-unit? shows they still got a pulse. niggas thought banks was dead, now look. if you respect hardwork, dedication, and hustle, you gonna respect g-unit. they grind. sha can produce, can facilitate label deals, thoro industry bull, the game needs more sha moneys. real street nigga that knows what the grind is that can identify with these artists. too many stiffs in suits fresh outta business school running hip hop. banks gonna shine, cuz hes got talent, time has proven this. good luck to sha.
I don’t care about G-Unit anymore, but they aren’t hardwork dedication and hustle, they got big because of 50 and Eminem let 50 skip all the work on his own, compare G-Unit to Chamillionaire, Chamillionaire started from the bottom to the top doing all his work of getting big on his own with little promotion, 50 started from the bottom then skipped all the hardwork to the top because he had Em.
But it doesn’t matter now, G-Unit’s dead, and that means Game will potentially die too because his feud with G-Unit is all that he had going for him.
G-Unit should stay independent except for maybe a G-Unit album, just to grow their brand as solo artists. I also think G-Unit needs a fourth member. Banks is the only one with lyrics so doesn’t really matter to me.

hell yea i been fuccin wit g-unit since the beggining and honestly they havent slowed down just the genre has changed people stopped goin after real gangsta shit and started listenin to gucci waka floca and wacc ass shit like that ha imma keep reppin the unit go head
Well so much for Stat Quo’s Statlanta again, I’m sure this is gonna delay it or get shelved completely. Maybe Sha Money will try to bring him to def jam but I doubt he will be able to and if so It’s sure to be a minute before we hear a release. I hope this move doesn’t hinder Statlanta’s release that album is long overdue

@UmmHmmUmmHMM
Your a fucking idiot….50 skipped all the hardwork?? ok lets remember he was blacklisted from the music industry after he got shot, he went to Canada to record numerous mixtapes (those of which were praised as some of the best mixtapes of all time; 50 cent is the Future, No Mercy No Fear) then finally hooked up with Jam Master Jay, who was killed because the two hooked up since 50 was blacklisted, then Eminem finally discovered him. He skipped all the hard work? shut the fuck up you dont know shit about the Unit fag.
And oprah could u pls talk 2 him about reenacting the Patriot Acts.
GWAP-UNIT stay winning..
I dont see how this can be good for G Unit, dont feel like they need DefJam, with all the work they have put in lately independently, 50 is on a level where he really doesnt need a major, Banks and Yayo benifit from this and should remain independent
UMMHMMUMMHMM…OR WHATEVER YOU CALL YASELF….GO BREAK YA LAPTOP ,,YA MAC BOOK…YA PC..OR WHAT EVER GADGET YOU USE TO WRITE YA BULLSHIT …BECAUSE YOU DONT KNOW SHIT……..!!!!!!….DUMBASS!!!!!….AND KNOW THIS AINT NO G-UNIT DICK RIDIN…….I JUST HATE MUTHAFUKAZ WHO DONT KNOW SHIT …BUT TALK SHIT…..MATTA OF FACT GO TAKE A SHIT AND CLEAN YA MIND!!!!!!
I’m not really sure how I feel about this. I swear that Sha Money still represented some real talent still (or not long ago). $ talks.

Straight power move! Now I wonder if people will come to realize why 50 and G-Unit didn’t go in on Rick Ross and Def Jam… they already knew one of them (either 50 or XL) was going to be offered that role so why alienate assets that you can make money off of?
This will be very interesting to watch the chess pieces continue to be moved, knocking your favorite rappers off the board.
reply at uhmhumhum hahahah 50 didnt work his way to get signed nigga wtf SMH…
50 was signed with columbia records in 199 and was bout to drop his album then he got shot in 2000 and then he got blacklisted no label wanted to sign him. 50 back at square one so he started dropping classic mixtapes after classic mixtapes until the whole NY was buzzin and it was even spreadin out to other states and the nigga was “blacklisted” CMON SON….. which then lead to a war between 9 different labels and 50 chose shady of course..not even a hater can say that 50 didnt put in work to get to the top nigga does nuttin but work 24/7 ………
but of course he got alot of help after he got signed but until he got signed he was in the worst scenario a rapper could imagine (similar blacklistin happened with R.A The Rugged Man) Cham never been shot and have to go thru all the trauma with that and Cham was never blacklisted.
50 worked his way to success just like Cham did but 50 made all the right decisions where Cham did not… no hate on my nigga Chamillionaire tho he is nice as hell, but 50 is the smartest nigga in this industry he aint gettin bent over like Jay, he plays the game but the game doesnt play him.
“These industry niggas aint friends/they know how to pretend”
