KRS-One affiliate Will 2 B revealed to HipHopDX today that the Hip Hop icon is readying a new EP reportedly titled L.A.B. (Lyrical Ass-Beating). To be released through (the presently under construction) KRSOneInc.com, the six-song project features production with DJ Kenny Parker, Freddie Foxxx a/k/a Bumpy Knuckles and Da Beatminerz.
Blastmasta KRS-One has previously worked with all three acts. Parker is KRS’ biological brother, and the duo worked extensively together since the Boogie Down Productions days. Foxxx worked on Boogie Down Productions’ Sex & Violence album, as the two are said to be at work on an album, Royalty Check. Da Beatminerz, a Bushwick, Brooklyn collective led by DJ Evil Dee and brother Mr. Walt, worked with KRS-One his Kristyles album.

Dude, T.I. is pretty good now. He’s getting a lot better with age. I don’t know about live shows, I’ve never seen any of the aforementioned artists live. I’ll fuck with this KRS-One record, but time doesn’t stand still. And KRS seems to have a lot of animosity toward modern day “rappers”. Old school battle rap doesn’t bite unless it’s live. You have to progress and take lyrics to a new frontier. Only person doing that is Lupe Fiasco right now.

KRS has gotten lazy with his lyrics. He spread himself out too thin, now he’s just mediocre at best. I say that as a long time KRS fan too. Cats just don’t understand you can’t put out an album ever six months and expect that quality not to suffer. A few have managed to do it for a little while early in their careers, including KRS, but you can’t do that shit forever. I wish it would go back to when a rapper came out with an album ever 2-4 years, giving their absolute best.
