Next month will mark the one year anniversary of Gang Starr/Jazzmatazz emcee Keith “Guru” Elam. The man who wrote such classics as “Words I Manifest,” “Mass Appeal” and “Full Clip” will not only see unreleased music come through longtime partner DJ Premier, but now has his legacy preserved through clothing.
A family member of Guru contacted HipHopDX to announce the family has partnered with clothing line The X Label to release several shirts paying tribute to the emcee. One of the two presently-released tees is pictured. Another black t-shirt lists the various stage names Guru used in his nearly 25-year emcee career, from MC Keithy E to Ill Kid, which he would name a label after. Proceeds from sales will go to Guru’s son, K.C.
this is good man.
It was Guru’s responsibility to have a proper will, and have money set aside to keep his family affloat. T-shirt proceeds? That just sounds so half ass. Assuming he owed his masters, which I’m guessing at this point he didn’t, sell those off and use that money for something worthwhile.
i bet he left everything to solar
Obviously you know nothing about Guru’s story …
